The Manager, Fleet Management is responsible to provide service and maintain the Operational, Maintenance Reserve, and Administrative fleets of CPC vehicles operated in the Central region and to train and assist vehicle operators and assist operations supervisors and management in the safe, proper and professional operation of vehicles.


Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Fleet Management:

  • Presents recommendations for the replacement, refurbishment, refilling and disposal of vehicles. Authorizes expenditures for the repair and maintenance of vehicles. Substantiates and recommends the composition of the Maintenance Reserve and Administrative fleets.
  • Manages subordinates in the performance of their duties, including hiring, promoting, disciplining, and recommending demotion and termination.
  • Establishes contracts for second-line maintenance services by commercial garages.
  • Hears grievances at the first level on behalf of the Director. Represents management at union consultation on matters relating to divisional Fleet Management activities. Serves on the Fleet Management Committee.
  • Provides input to Corporate programs related to improving vehicle operation, use and maintenance.
  • Resolves problems emanating from relationships between Fleet Management personnel and the management, supervisors and drivers of the division.
  • Manages the activities of Fleet Management personnel in the region, provides leadership and direction to meet the performance standards specified by senior management.
  • Conducts reviews and audits of Fleet Management operations and takes corrective action as necessary. Develops, presents and manages the division operating budget.
  • Ensures that records are maintained, and that administrative systems and procedures are followed in accordance with Corporate direction.
  • Ensures that vehicles are serviced and maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition at the minimum cost necessary to meet Corporate standards.
  • Ensures that Fleet Management personnel are and remain, skilled and competent in their technical knowledge and ability.
  • Ensures that vehicles are provided to meet the requirements of the Operational, Maintenance Reserve, and Administrative fleets.
  • Ensures that vehicle operators are certified before driving and that accidents are properly and promptly investigated.
  • Ensures that Fleet Management activities are performed in accordance with Corporate policies, operating practices, procedures, and standards and develops and implements supplement practices where necessary.
  • Provides input to divisional management activities, with emphasis on automotive matters, but also to any other matter of general postal operations as requested/required by senior management.
  • Ensures that professional driving techniques and skills are effectively taught to vehicle operators and operations management and monitors actual driving habits to determine weaknesses in individual drivers and the need for remedial training.


Qualifications

Education

  • Completed post-secondary, preferably in a related field OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant functional experience
  • One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset
  • 2 or more years’ experience managing people

  • Sound organizational, analytical, judgement and decision-making skills with proven abilities in problem solving
  • Designation and or certifications programs may be required for certain positions (e.g. Finance & Engineering)
  • Excellent team building and leadership skills and experience
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs
