Ontario Line South
Our team is mobilizing its design and construction crews, with major works to commence in 2023. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.
The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.
What is the project?

• A six-kilometre tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River)
• Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown.
• Stations:
• One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station
• Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to provide a strategic blend of legal and commercial advice on a broad range of issues related to the operation of the project. The Legal Counsel will report to the Senior Legal Counsel and work in close coordination the Procurement/Contract Management teams on the project. This position will be responsible for supporting the procurement, management and resolution of disputes related to Subcontracts, Project Agreement support, and providing c-suite level legal advice.
What you will undertake:

• Contribute your business acumen to support the legal department
• Identify warnings, problems or conflicts for resolution
• Be outcome-focused with a view to practical, commercially viable legal solutions spanning a variety of different areas of the law and business
• Management of processes for procurement, contract formation, contract administration, and closeout
• Support contract and project related commercial activities in the areas of engineering and construction on a Design-Build, P3 project
• Lead/manage the tendering process from the development of procurement strategies, prequalification, tender, review, through to the negotiation and award of consultants and contractors
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Deliver assignments independently and make legal determinations on assigned matters
• Assist in litigation strategies and evaluation of the associated approaches to risk management
• Oversight of contracting functions across the Project to ensure proper governance and execution

Qualifications
What do we ask for?

• Experience on P3 and other large complex construction projects is a significant asset
• Intellectual curiosity and great commercial judgment
• The ability to establish and maintain strong relationships and trust with all stakeholders
• Strong inter-personal skills, including resiliency
• 3-8 years’ experience in litigation or corporate counsel roles
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience with projects in the engineering, or construction industries, or related disciplines is a significant asset
• Experience with dispute resolution is an asset
• Post-secondary legal degree or related educational credentials
