Summary
Technology and Innovation is comprised of three groups: Digital Analytics, Digital Systems, and the Autonomy, Innovation & Strategy (also referred to as Enterprise Improvement Planning).
RACE is Teck’s Digital Transformation program. The Digital Analytics team is a key contributor to RACE, and acts as an enabler of innovation and digital transformation for the mining industry. Digital Analytics acts in support of Teck’s purpose and aims to scale sustainable impact to new customers – both internal and external to Teck.
This unique team of individuals is paving/trailblazing the future of mining, by developing and implementing digital solutions which use advanced analytics and artificial intelligence to diagnose, predict and prescribe improvements for mining organization (or across the value chain, enhancing operational performance, safety, and sustainability.
Reporting to the Manager, Software Development, the Lead, QA will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and quality of the analytics solutions delivered to our customers. As a leader in the software quality program, the QA Lead will demonstrate a passion for automation, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to hold teams accountable for the quality of their work. The successful candidate will be responsible for building and leading a QA team to support analytics applications within a business-to-business software development division. This role requires a deep understanding of QA practices, agile methodologies, and the ability to drive continuous improvement in quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Emerging Technologies: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, actively pursuing new skills and ideas as a software quality leader, and driving their adoption to enhance the QA processes
• Agile Process Improvement: Collaborate with agile development teams to implement QA processes, automation technologies, and standard practices to ensure efficient and effective delivery of high-quality software products
• User Experience: Work closely with product, process, and technical leadership to shift quality left in the development process, focusing on user story specifications, acceptance criteria, and delivery processes to drive a consistently excellent end-user experience
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Foster collaboration and clear communication with product managers, developers, and other collaborators to prioritize operational demands, align QA efforts with business goals, and ensure successful product delivery
• Test Planning and Automation: Ensure comprehensive and efficient testing of data-intensive analytics applications in a high-automation cloud-native environment
• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Quality Assurance Leadership: Lead and mentor the QA team, providing guidance and technical expertise in implementing up-to-date QA practices and industry standards to enhance the quality, maintainability, performance, and security of our products
• Solution Optimization: Challenge conventions and collaborate with teams to identify potential pitfalls and inefficient solutions, promoting innovation and continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle

Qualifications

• Leadership Experience: Proven track record of leading QA efforts across multiple agile teams, driving quality improvements, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
• Data-Intensive Analytics: Strong experience in QA of data-intensive analytics applications, preferably in a high-automation cloud-native environment
• Emerging Technologies: Passion for the impact of emerging technologies on software quality, actively seeking opportunities to learn and apply new skills and ideas
• Self-Starter: Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and embrace a culture of transparency and trust
• Education: Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field, or equivalent education and experience
• Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, embracing change and driving innovation
• Collaboration and Communication: Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, prioritize operational demands, and influence team members at all levels
• Test Planning and Automation: Extensive experience and expertise in test planning and test automation, using industry-leading tools and frameworks such as Playwright
