inHabit (2040LP) Projects and Design (inHabit) is a Halifax-based Project Management and Design Studio that collaborates on projects across Canada.
We work in various industries in different facets of our economy and society. Our employees are multi-disciplinary professionals. We utilize digital technologies and processes to manage and execute our work; anywhere, anytime. inHabit (est. 2016) collaborates on projects in production, fabrication, development, engineering, architecture, construction, art exhibition and audio/video production. We work with organizations, and individuals to conceive, design, curate, plan, manage and execute their projects.
Our scope of practice includes; project design/conception, specification, detailing, contract implementation, construction review, contract administration, and production management.
Our scope of work varies; we are agile and versatile. We typically have 3 to 5 people working on over a dozen projects and assign tasks on a project-by-project basis. We are active in real estate, development, infrastructure, government relations, consulting, arts management, arts operations, technical writing…
We currently have offices in Perth, ON and Halifax, NS. We are building a fabrication shop space in Lower Prospect, NS. Our abilities and services are expanding.
Role Title:
Junior and Intermediate Level
Project Engineer (EIT)/Technician
:
inHabit is currently looking to hire a part-time Junior/Intermediate Project Engineer/Technician to assist in the day-to-day operations of the company. Under the guidance of a Principal Project Manager (P.Eng) and/or a Project Manager, this team member will ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget and to a high standard. A candidate looking for experience with a small company, having a wide variety of tasks, duties and responsibilities would be well-suited for this position.
Work Location:
Halifax, NS
Hybrid: in-person (Halifax) and remote.
Occasional work at the shop in Lower Prospect, NS.
Travel may be required at times for projects or to the office in Ontario.
Salary:
Junior: $20 - $30 / hr (based on experience)
Intermediate Project Manager: $30 - $45 / hr (based on experience)
Schedule and Hours:
Part-time, flexible, up to 30 hours per week immediately, over 3 - 5 days per week, with the potential to scale up hours over time. A schedule will be based on availability, project demands and workload. We all have lives and families; scheduling will be negotiable and flexible within reason.
Responsibilities may include:
- Communicating with partners, contractors and clients
- Undertaking construction, assembly, fabrication, manufacturing and related activities
- Conducting and reporting on site-visits, inspections and meetings
- Preparing design drawings
- Preparing design calculations
- Other
- Preparing quantity takeoffs and budget estimates
- Sourcing materials
- Researching means and methods
- Preparing and maintaining documents, contracts and specifications
- Attending site, office and virtual meetings
- Running errands and completing basic office/shop chores
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
- Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with clients, contractors and suppliers.
- 3 - 10 years experience in related work (Intermediate).
- College Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in engineering, construction, computers, carpentry, mechanic (light or heavy), architecture, building science, other sciences, manufacturing, production or another related field.
- Experience with the following programs will be considered an asset:
- Excellent communication skills and ability to share information with the team and management in English.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with an ability to be self-motivated and work independently… have the confidence to ask questions.
- Basic understanding of project management in construction, design, production, and/or manufacturing.
- Microsoft Office (OneNote, Excel, Word, Teams…)
- Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator
- AutoCAD, Revit, etc.
- Structural modelling software
- Google SketchUp
- Have a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license; having a vehicle for work purposes is preferred but is not required.
- Google Drive (Sheets, Docs, Slides…)
- Bluebeam Revu
- Ability to be versatile, problem-solve, and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Have a keen interest in working on multidisciplinary projects across a variety of industries.
- 0 - 5 years experience in related work (Junior).
- Adobe Acrobat
