We’re looking for an Electrical Engineer (Intermediate) join one of our GTA or Waterloo offices. To be successful, you must have minimum 5-10 years of experience involved in the design and implementation of electrical systems.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• MV motor control
• Equipment layouts
• LV power distribution
• Instrumentation and Control
• Electrical systems modelling using ETAP, SKM or Easy Power.
• Standby power systems design
• Electrical system protection and coordination including power system studies
• Fire Alarm Systems
• Completing condition assessments for various facilities including report writing and participation in client meetings.
• Substation design support
• Utility interconnection
• Preparing detailed design drawing packages for projects of varying scale, including some the following:
• MV power distribution
• Working as part of and potentially leading electrical project team throughout project phases and monitoring schedule, quality of deliverable and budgets.
• Coordination of electrical system designs with other engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, civil, structural, etc.), vendors, and outside design team members. Providing direction to and coordination with internal designers/drafters team.
• LV motor control
• Preparation of contract documentation including equipment specifications, cable/conduit schedules, installation specifications, equipment procurement documents, sub-contractor requisitions, scope-of-work, bill-of-materials, and process narratives.
• Grounding
• Preparing and leading electrical specific meetings with clients presenting design options, system functionality, etc.
• Interior and Exterior Lighting systems modelling
• Support GHD design teams in US as well as Western Canada.
• DC systems
• Completion and review of electrical design calculations.
• Support during tendering and construction including responding to RFIs, assisting GHD and client site personnel, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating electrical reports (short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, ground potential rise (GPR), harmonics, etc), completing site inspections, preparing testing plans, preparation and evaluation of change orders and participation in project meetings.
• Ensuring compliance with electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards and regulations. Coordination and liaison with clients and approving authorities.
• Building services (lighting, security, etc.)

What you will bring to the team:

• Excellent knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards, US codes and standards, relevant industry standards and regulations.
• 5-10 years of experience involved in the design and implementation of electrical systems including power distribution, standby power & generators, motors and drives, lighting, as well as solid understanding of field instrumentation and automated equipment integration. (Mandatory)
• G class driver’s license is considered an asset.
• Strong analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and continual diligence to follow-up. Ability to exercise sound judgment.
• Fire Alarm systems design experience will be considered an asset.
• Well organized, able to multi-task and lead multiple projects. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills.
• Ability to be a part of multi-functional teams with the ability to relate well and cooperate with other members of the team, to effectively coordinate activities and accomplish goals.
• B.A.Sc. in Electrical Engineering.
• Engineering licenses or registration with relevant organizations in other provinces as well as in US states will be considered an asset.
• Self-motivated, with strong desire to learn.
• Must be registered member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario and possess P.Eng. license. (Mandatory)
