Java Team Lead - Hybrid

This is a Java Team Lead role in the compute team within the common risk group in Markets Technology. The team is building a greenfield compute platform for executing quantitative analytics at large scale both on-premise and in public cloud. This role involves designing, implementing and running robust, secure and observable microservices. Currently the team is focused on scaling the platform and addressing bottlenecks as more asset classes adopt the platform, leveraging the public cloud wherever possible.

The key technologies in the role are Java with Spring; messaging using Kafka and AMQP (RabbitMQ); NoSQL data storage (MongoDB), and Kubernetes-based containerisation. Experience with AWS; CI/CD (Jenkins); logging and metrics; and event-driven architectures are an advantage.

The candidate will be expected to build and lead a team of experienced Java developers, as well as owning technical delivery. There will be significant interactions with clients and stakeholders, and their requirements will be heard and balanced against broader requirements, as well as assessed for their suitability as re-usable features.

The group has an emphasis on following standards and best practices, both from the industry and internally determined. The role will involve with engaging the leads across the team to debate and agree common approaches and patterns to adopt.

Key Responsibilities:

• Identifying and implementing automation opportunities around testing, monitoring, deployment, and any other manual operations
• Liaising with clients to gather new requirements and prioritise them
• Designing and implementing new features for the compute platform, principally enhancing event-driven microservices or building new ones
• Building and leading a team of experienced Java developers.
• Evaluating and performing POCs on new strategic technical products and applications
• Providing support and assistance to clients across dev, uat and production environments

Skills & Qualifications:

• You are passionate about databases and worked in the past with SQL/NoSQL technologies (such as Oracle and MongoDB)
• You have very high development standards, especially for code quality, code reviews, unit testing, continuous integration and deployment.
• Minimum 5 years of demonstrated technical and team leadership
• Minimum 10 years of experience in Java and SpringBoot
• You deliver great user experiences, demonstrably, working closely with clients to do it.
• You have an appetite for taking on challenges and leveraging new technologies.
• You have proven capability to interact with clients and deliver results, taking ideas to production
• You have an understanding of DevOps patterns and tooling (such as Docker, Kubernetes, Gradle, Jenkins).
• You have a good understanding of event-driven microservice architecture and running applications in Kubernetes
• Minimum 3 years running services on cloud platforms such as AWS
