Job Description
SAIT’s Centre for Applied Education Innovation (CAEI) department is a catalyst for excellence and creativity. It offers leadership and support in program design and course creation. CAEI is a vital participant in new initiatives related to SAIT strategic goals, the Education Plan and the future of curriculum development at SAIT.


The Opportunity


Reporting to the Manager Program Design, the Centre for Applied Education Innovation is looking to hire Instructional Designers to work with a range of stakeholders to analyze, design and develop credit curriculum for stakeholders at SAIT.


As the expert in pedagogy program and course design, you will provide strategic guidance and overall leadership for cross-functional teams involved in creating new curriculum. You will participate in program design sessions to create program outcomes and high-level concepts. You will lead the learning design process and work with subject matter experts to create the course curriculum. This includes being responsible for the course learning outcomes, objectives, learning activities and assessments. The primary goal for this role is to ensure that the course design provides an effective learning experience and meets the planned outcomes for each course as well as for the overall program.


The Role


  • Analyze educational needs, program scope and learner audience
  • Ensure program and course designs align with the applicable accreditation and credentialing frameworks.
  • Apply appropriate curriculum development and instructional design models, as well as online pedagogical approaches, learning theories and technology solutions to each course development project.
  • Adhere to timelines and report project status weekly
  • Apply teamwork skills to contribute positively to a team environment
  • Apply cutting-edge research in adult learning to design effective applied learning experiences and assessments.
  • Review SME deliverable schedules and project timelines.
  • Support scoping of new programs and courses
  • Provide insights and support to stakeholders during and after program design sessions
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to design and develop blended, online and face-to-face courses
  • Use excellent interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders and support resolution of issues.
  • Work with media specialists and subject matter experts to create storyboards for interactive learning objects that are pedagogically relevant


Qualifications & Experience


Minimum Requirements


  • University undergraduate degree and a recognized professional certification/designation in instructional design or equivalent combination of education credentials and certifications within the subject matter
  • Five years recent experience in the area of designing and developing courses and programs for multiple modalities
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field
  • Experience using a learning management system (LMS) such as Brightspace in course design
  • Familiar with and comfortable using computer applications relevant to instructional design such as Microsoft Office suite and rapid e-learning tools


Preferred Requirements


  • Work experience in a post-secondary environment
  • Master's degree in education (including Online Learning) in a similar field would be considered an asset


Knowledge And Skills Required


  • Knowledge of the curriculum development process in general
  • Ability to work effectively with subject matter experts and SAIT faculty
  • Ability to apply instructional design principles and methodologies to a broad array of curriculum development situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent research and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at a time
  • Knowledge of educational terminology
