About The Position


The Digital Communications & Media and Multimedia Production programs at Lethbridge College are seeking a highly motivated, self-directed individual to provide instructional support for day-to-day operations of the programs and their courses. The successful candidate will mainly provide one-on-one instructional assistance and consultation to students for projects and assignments using industry standard software, tools, and equipment.


Position Details


The overall responsibility of this position is to assist faculty and students with software-related curriculum of the Digital Communications & Media and Multimedia Production programs. The position includes covering a range of mediums, technologies, and tasks. Secondary duties of this creative role include supporting the maintenance of the Lethbridge Campus Media entities, including the Kodiak Radio Station, website, and social media platforms.


The Instructional Assistant will help with support of students in the classroom marking support of student material for preliminary, first, and second year courses. Responsible to source and purchase lab and office supplies, equipment and resources, and keep an up-to-date inventory list. The Instructional Assistant may be asked to represent the program as a professional team member at meetings, or at recruiting events.


Requirements: Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite. Previous experience in media industry. Familiarity with design principles. Understanding of social media and business account management. Experience working with media technology.


Key Duties Include


Classroom Support:


  • Respond to student inquires and provide tutorial sessions upon request.
  • Create tutorials at the request of faculty or students.
  • Provide assistance to faculty in the preparation of lab materials.
  • General supervision of classroom spaces.
  • Assist in setting up classroom spaces for instruction with A/V equipment, camera gear, paper supply, etc.
  • Provide faculty grading support.
  • Support faculty and students in labs and class time where necessary.
  • Assist students with software and computer navigation, including file storage, and submission.


Equipment Maintenance


  • Demonstrate proper use of media technology, including rental gear.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot faculty and student software problems.
  • Research and learn new software/equipment. Provide usage procedure and instructions for students and faculty.
  • Maintain all rental gear (cameras, bags, tripods, etc.) and ensure items are in working order.
  • Liaise with the Lethbridge College IT Services department to troubleshoot and to maintain computers, scanners, and other hardware. Ensure equipment is ready and able to support program needs.
  • Monitor rental gear usage, sign-out equipment as required for student use, and enforce rental contract obligations.


Organization


  • Create schedules for various program activities and events.
  • Monitor and recommend workflow management for Lethbridge Campus Media products.
  • Maintain archives of media products, both print and electronic.
  • Monitor supplies and ensure inventory is maintained for student and faculty use.
  • Maintain online Canvas portals and communicate important information to students.
  • Communicate with internal and external production teams on specifications for program and student projects.
  • Attend program meetings and present as required.


Program Promotion


  • Assist with the production of promotional materials.
  • Attend institutional and program recruiting events and liaise with interested parties.
  • Promote, assist with, and plan recruiting activities for the Digital Communications & Media and Multimedia Production programs as needed, at the recommendation of faculty and chair.


Required Qualifications


  • Applicants must have extensive hands-on knowledge of current design and media software and technology, industry techniques, and equipment.
  • Minimum two-year diploma or degree with a focus on Digital Communications & Media, Multimedia Production, or a related area
