Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Human Resources Generalist to join our dynamic and growing team. McInnis & Holloway has been part of the Calgary community for over 110 years. We are a family-owned company that is a leader in the funeral services industry. As we continue to grow, this new position will play a key role in the provision of comprehensive HR support to all departments and staff. This highly visible role requires professionalism, integrity, and a strong alignment with our company's vision and mission.


Responsibilities


  • Updating the Employee Handbook, our primary resource for policies and procedures.
  • Preparation of reports for upper management, providing valuable insights and recommendations.
  • Creation and preparation of job offers and onboarding documentation, ensuring a smooth transition for new hires.
  • Supporting training administration and collaborating with department managers to source relevant training opportunities.
  • Responding promptly to staff requests for information, fostering a supportive and approachable HR environment.
  • Facilitating new hire onboarding and assisting with HR administration duties, including data entry and file management.
  • Maintaining accurate records of employee milestone dates and eligibility for company benefits.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for the HR Department, offering a welcoming experience for employees and leaders.
  • Active participation in employee meetings, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Proactively managing all vacant positions, ensuring job ads attract quality candidates and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Assisting with record keeping, inventory management, and provision of company uniform pieces.
  • Ensuring all agency-related documents (police checks, insurance, etc.) are obtained.
  • Recruitment and talent management for all departments, ensuring the acquisition of top talent.


Support For The Human Resources Supervisor


  • Submitting WCB and disability paperwork to the company benefits provider.
  • Providing support for accurate and efficient file management of training records, driving documentation, and mandatory training information.
  • Developing and administering performance appraisals in collaboration with department managers.
  • Ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and certifications.
  • Assisting with payroll preparation, disability claim management, and updating employee information in the payroll software.


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Education in human resources management or relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills with a collaborative and respectful approach.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, cloud or internet-based databases, and HR Information Systems.
  • Clear and concise communication (verbal and written) and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Certification or candidacy in CPHR (or equivalent) is considered an asset.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Collaborative and respectful approach to working with diverse groups.
  • Proven experience as a Human Resources Generalist, including recruitment and selection.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Docs applications.
  • Knowledge and application of provincial employment legislation, including Employment Standards, Human Rights, Privacy legislation, and HR best practices.
