Head Butcher

VG Group is looking for a Head Butcher in Ontario, ON!

We are looking to hire a critical thinker and skilled problem-solver with shop skills to join our Retail Team with some cross over to the production and farming team. You will assist our retail growth efforts. Growing existing and newly added retail stores. To do well in this role, you should have previous experience in the meat and butchery business, be highly skilled, and have a strong business and leadership aptitude.

Hours:

• 44 hours per week

Main duties

Head Butcher performs some or all of the following duties:

• Support and lead continuous improvement in operations and meat plant operations
• Understand and teach farming methods and approach
• Support Financial plans and authorize expenditures
• Resolve customer complaints
• Improve current product offerings
• Determine staffing requirements and hire or oversee hiring of staff
• Plan, direct and evaluate the operations of establishments engaged in wholesale and retail sales
• Collaborate with peer groups
• Manage staff and assign duties
• Develop and implement product offerings
• Develop and improve customer service and experience
• Develop and support the development of various recipes
• Learn and lead the use of current and newly implemented systems
• Study market research and trends to determine consumer demand, potential sales volumes and effect of competitors' operations on sales
• Cure, cook and smoke various retail offering
• Determine merchandise and services to be sold, and implement price and credit policies
• Support set up and development of new and underperforming stores

Employment requirements

• A university degree or college diploma in Meat/Food Science or other field related is helpful.
• 10 years of butchery, meat processing or related retail sales experience
