Job Description

As a Production Group Leader, you are responsible to implement and execute the established business plan for an area of the production operations and foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation. Work is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS; focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE).
  • Understands and consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and UNIFOR.
  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment.
  • Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements.
  • Participates in the training, developing and evaluating of hourly team members.
  • Coach, teach, counsel and mentor team members in these responsibilities.
  • Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping.
  • Maintains awareness of quality standards, and communicates department quality goals, and leverages resources to solve quality issues.
  • Builds and maintains good working relationships with employees, union and management.
  • Motivates, trains and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods.
  • Leads Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes and serves as resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas.
  • Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training).
  • Meets or exceeds production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements.
  • Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues.
Additional
Requirements:
  • Previous leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of COMMWIP (Correction, Overproduction, Material Movement, Motion, Waiting, Inventory, Processing) or Lean Six Sigma– Waste Elimination
  • Must be willing to rotating shifts, and be available to work overtime including weekends
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to coach and support team members in order to develop them to their full potential
  • Post Secondary Degree/ Diploma or a Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Possess strong problem-solving and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Labor relations/UNIFOR
  • Understanding of Global Manufacturing System (GMS) and departmental & plant scorecard metrics
