The opportunity:

UM is looking for a Graduate Program Advisor. This position will be responsible for advising prospective students on admission requirements for the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Department, communicate and handle enquiries, and provides advice regarding program regulations. The Graduate Program Advisor will also be responsible for reviewing graduate program information on the department’s website as well as implementing changes in policies and procedures.


The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • High level of cultural awareness and sensitivity required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Experience with travel booking, reimbursements and university travel policies and procedures preferred.
  • Ability to set priorities and work effectively under pressure and constraints with a high degree of accuracy required.
  • Experience using Aurora Student, Banner, Jump, Concur, EPIC, Drupal is preferred.
  • Experience working with University graduate policy and procedures preferred.
  • Professional and friendly manner is required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Ability to work independently to complete administrative tasks required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to complete tasks with attention to detail required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality following FIPPA & PHIA is required.
  • At least four years of directly related office experience and student advising is required.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, students and the public in a
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) suite is required.
  • Demonstrated experience providing support to international students.
  • Ability to multi-task in a busy office environment is required.
  • Must be self-motivated in order to complete tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Effective time management, decision making, problem solving, and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
  • Experience using Radius, AppReview is preferred.
  • Completion of a formal training program in a related discipline from a recognized institute required.
  • Ability to exercise initiative required.
  • Experience with university ordering and payment processes preferred.
  • Experience working with students and the public preferred.
