We are a leading professional services firm located in Kitchener, Ontario. As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to join our dynamic team.


The Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the accounting department and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and regulations, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to drive process improvements. The ideal candidate will have experience in professional services or a similar industry.


Responsibilities


  • Stay updated on changes in accounting regulations and standards, ensuring compliance and recommending process improvements as necessary.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of financial statements, including the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Collaborate with external auditors during financial audits, providing necessary documentation and addressing inquiries or issues.
  • Coordinate and oversee the annual budgeting process, working closely with senior management and department heads to establish financial goals and objectives.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
  • Conduct regular reviews of financial processes, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices to streamline operations.
  • Monitor and analyze financial data, identifying trends and providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  • Serve as a point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and providing financial guidance as needed.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.


Qualifications


  • Proven leadership abilities and the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and financial reporting standards (GAAP).
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience in a professional services firm or similar industry is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in using accounting software and advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated integrity and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.


Requirements


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be detailed, flexible, and organized
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business-related field preferred
  • Solid understanding of month end closings
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and vendor management skills
  • Self-starter with efficient time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects within strict deadlines
  • Strong organization skills with a sense of urgency and capable of prioritizing multiple tasks
  • Relevant accounting experience, including as a Bookkeeper preferred
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment
