Our well-established client is seeking a FINANCE LEAD for an 18-month term position. Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the Finance Lead(s) are responsible for direct supervision of all accounting functions, including supervision of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process. The Finance Lead(s) work as a team of subject matter experts on complex accounting issues, formulating corporate positions on emerging accounting issues. The Finance Lead(s) create procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate. Together the lead(s) also manage the annual budgeting and forecasting process. The quality and accuracy of financial information are significant output factors for this role.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Leading the budget process by developing monitoring and reporting on budgets.
- Working with the other Finance Lead(s) to gain a working proficiency in their areas of responsibility to provide backup during periods of absence.
- Applying knowledge of Canadian GAAP (ASNPO, ASPE and IFRS) and financial statement disclosure.
- Understand, guide, and implement effective internal controls for various financial systems used such as (AX, Alfa, MRI, Atlas, Concur, Skidata, tower data, FIDs)
- Coordinating with external auditors and providing them with required information and addressing any questions they have.
- Leading the Finance team’s monthly reporting cycle according to the published timetable by planning the allocation of resources and monitoring progress towards completion Ensuring accuracy of transactions being recorded each month, monthly balances are correct, and variances of monthly operating results align with trends and knowledge of the business.
- Developing, monitoring, and reporting on cash flow forecast.
- Maintaining accurate and timely recording of financial data reporting systems allowing for real time financial analysis and reporting.
- Identifying areas of inefficiencies in monthly, quarterly, and annual processes and offer solutions to improve efficiencies.
- Maintaining and auditing financial systems to ensure completeness and accuracy of general ledger accounts, the financial coding block, mapping, and central accounts integration.
- Accountability for the accuracy and completeness of all internal & external reporting, according to the published timetable, to EMT, the Board, and other external stakeholders.
- Ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of Line of Business Reporting.
- Fostering a service mentality in the Finance Team towards the rest of the business.
Specific Requirements:
- Canadian CPA designation achieved (CGA, CMA, CA) required.
- Strong financial acumen and analytical agility.
- Advanced working knowledge of Excel and strong database skills.
- Strong people skills and ability to build lasting relationships.
- Proven prioritization, time management and project management skills.
- Recognized bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration or in a related area.
- Effective written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Initiative-taking, results driven, prefers to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Meticulous, organized, and able to meet tight deadlines.
- Accounting firm expertise is considered an asset.
- Ability to research and draft an accounting position paper to support Edmonton Airports position or policy.
- Strong IFRS/ASPE/ASNPO knowledge and capable of researching complex accounting topics in the CPA Handbook.
- Experience preparing financial statements, auditing working papers and account reconciliations.
- Full cycle accounting Experience.
