JOB SUMMARY
The Canadian Audit & Accountability Foundation (CAAF) Director, Professional Development, leads the professional development team in creating and delivering training products and services to clients, on behalf of CAAF. This position oversees the operational processes and systems to ensure high-quality training outputs and deliverables to our members and clients.
The successful candidate is innovative, strategic, creative, and agile – entrepreneurial and highly motivated to create sustainable value for CAAF members, both in Canada and internationally. The Director works with their team to successfully link professional development products, and services, with the CAAF strategic plan to achieve desired outcomes. They do so by employing strategies that will leverage the latest in current and emerging teaching tools and methods.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- And associate fees and track PD financial performance against forecast/projections.
- Other duties, as required, to support the organizational objectives.
- Collaborate with the Director, Business Development, Partnership, and Funding, to strategically identify and approach prospective institutional members and funders, including acquiring new clients to participate in CAAF training.
- Lead the development and refinement of professional development (PD) products, including
- Provides strategic advice to CAAF as a member of the senior leadership team. Produce PD update material for the CAAF Board of Directors.
- Manage a small team of employees, including the responsibility to maintain relations, and a diverse roster of teaching associates in our PD programs.
- Identify opportunities for new course development and participate in development efforts with other departments of CAAF.
- Courses, training programs, and other offerings, ensuring alignment with the CAAF’s strategic direction forPD.
- Review course content and offerings, implementing changes to content and delivery process asneeded.
- In collaboration with marketing and communications, ensure the promotion related to PD courses are targeted and appropriate.
- Assess requests to deliver courses, webinars, presentations, to promote awareness of CAAF, ourproducts and services.
- Accountable for the PD business unit budget. Coordinate with Finance to set PD course pricing
EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE
- Experience engaging with senior executives and negotiating professional development products andservices.
- Experience managing staff, teaching associates, and consultants.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Superior analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- 5-8 years’ professional experience in public sector audit, performance audit, and/or internal audit, and in delivering professional development.
- Strong writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills, in both English and French.
- University degree in accounting, finance, or business.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Canadian citizen or legal status to work in Canada.
- Preference is given to candidates with a post-graduate degree in related field.
- Strong preference is given to those that have performance audit experience.
- The Director, Professional Development has proven leadership experience in providing excellence inservicing and delivering a superior member experience.

Canadian Audit and Accountability Foundation employees are expected to demonstrate teamwork, initiative, and resourcefulness, to be highly organized and be able to adapt to changing priorities. Employees should exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills and show good judgement. They must be hands-on and be able to work well as part of a small, but energetic team, assisting others in the organization when necessary.
In addition, the Director, Professional Development, should be entrepreneurial, results-oriented, and self‑motivated, proactively driving for the delivery of sustainable value to CAAF members and clients. They should exhibit adaptability and a willingness to take on new challenges. They must be motivated to work collaboratively with team members and colleagues across the organization to find solutions and deliver value.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Will be required to work outside of normal business hours, particularly when working with international members and clients in different time zones.
- Or asthe job demands. Business travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by CAAF.
- We offer a hybrid working model – a positive, balanced, work environment where there is trust, cooperation, risk-taking support, accountability, and equity.
- CAAF Head Office is in Ottawa, Ontario.
- Employees based outside of Ottawa will be expected to travel to Ottawa up to four times a year
- CAAF will consider applicants from across Canada interested in taking on this position remotely.
- CAAF offers a competitive employee benefits package, including 3 weeks’ vacation, a total of 15statutory and CAAF paid holidays (i.e.: office closed between December 25th and January 1st), 12personal/sick days per year, health/dental, vision coverage, and matching RRSP.
- This position requires some overnight travel to locations within Canada and internationally.

Our professional development programs include a wide range of topics primarily focused on performance auditing, internal audit, accountability, andoversight.
Members and clients include legislative auditors and internal auditors at the federal, provincial, and local governments in Canada, and abroad. Training is primarily delivered in English, and French, but can be provided in other languages as requested.
