Director, Process Management – Business Process Management and Optimisation


Hybrid Work


The Business Process Management and Optimisation team is recruiting a Director to lead a global, cross-functional process. This will require a highly organised & motivated individual who can operate across multiple areas of clinical trial delivery, develop clear plans, put in place robust communication methods & collaborate with various stakeholders and audiences across R&D. You will represent your team and process area at various governance meetings or project meetings and ensure updates are made to the related process in a timely manner. The role will require excellent planning, project and leadership skills, ensuring teams are following the process framework and delivering according to plans. A Leader with a strong lean mindset would be advantageous as we move to embedding a lean culture within the team and Biopharma ClinOps in the future.

Biopharma Clinical Operations is accountable for the delivery of clinical studies across the portfolio. Process, Quality & Business Capability is an enabling function who serve across Oncology & Biopharmaceuticals R&D and the Business Process and Optimisation Team are part of this enabling function.


Business Process Management and Optimisation aims to drive process excellence through a strong core capability partnering cross functionally to drive efficient continuous process improvements using lean methodology & data insights. Resulting in optimised clinical processes, fit for the future.


You will be an important member of the Business Process Management Leadership Team, who are accountable for the design, development, maintenance and optimisation of key clinical processes and procedural documents, that both meet customer needs and enable optimal delivery of clinical studies. A strong advocate for lean approaches, you’ll utilise tools and techniques to achieve continuous improvement, identify problems and serve as a change agent to drive and implement changes.


Typical Accountabilities


  • Work with SMEs within the business to design and own the clinical process including standards and procedures within an assigned Process Area
  • Manage continuous improvement and change
  • Drive adherence to the process and define KPIs; monitor and improve performance
  • Monitor internal and external signals and trends. Stay aware of external environment and provide insights into future possibilities.
  • Engage and lead a process network or appropriate forums to encourage best practises
  • Identify issues and risks, escalate as required through appropriate governance forums
  • Manage links with related processes and manage relationships with key stakeholders
  • Document the process to appropriate level of detail and to relevant regulatory requirements
  • Facilitate sharing of good practice and learning within function and cross functionally


Critical requirements:


  • Demonstrated project management skills and proven skills to deliver to time, cost and quality in large scale complex projects
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate discipline or equivalent experience
  • Experience within a pharmaceutical or clinical background
  • Proven leadership skills promoting motivation and empowerment of others in order to accomplish individual, team and organisational objectives
  • High level of business process knowledge
  • Experience in working successfully and collaboratively with partners delivering mutual benefit
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage through change, and see change as an opportunity to improve performance and add value to the business


Desirable requirements:


  • Extensive experience in the development and management of Business Process to deliver business performance
  • Expert reputation within the business and industry
  • Experience of utilizing standard process improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean Six Sigma) to identify root causes of process issues and identify areas of process improvement
