Canada's Sports Hall of Fame (CSHoF) is seeking one intern to:
- Support the planning, development/creation, and execution of a community engagement strategy surrounding the public nomination process for the annual Class of Order of Sport Award recipients and inductees into CSHoF – the Order of Sport Nomination Campaign for the Class of 2024.
- Assist in CSHoF’s commitment to enhancing representation of Indigenous, Black and other racially marginalized athletes and builders of sport in the Hall of Famer group through engaging the communities and networks of racially diverse Hall of Famers.
- Help develop digital assets, infrastructure, and creative materials that will ensure the reach, accessibility and impact of the stories of racially marginalized Hall of Famers – 16 Indigenous, 36 Black, 4 Asian and 1 Cuban.
- Assist in the planning, development and execution of a digital strategy surrounding the public nomination process for the Class of 2024.
- Assist in the planning, development and execution of a digital strategy surrounding the 67th Annual Order of Sport Awards, increasing awareness across Canada and honouring the accomplishments of the Class of 2023.
- Support the execution of stakeholder engagement surrounding the Indigenous Sport Heroes Education Experience – highlighting any Indigenous Athletes and/or Builders announced as part of the Class 2023.
Tasks:
- Learn the brand guidelines and standards for Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, the Order of Sport brand, and the Indigenous Sport Heroes Education Experience digital exhibit.
- Utilize social media platforms and email marketing (constant contact) to disseminate content.
- Collaborate with Marketing Lead & Stakeholder Engagement/Executive Assistant to plan, create, and execute an Order of Sport Nomination Campaign surrounding the Class of 2024.
- Ensure adherence to digital brand standards, online accessibility, licensing guidelines, and privacy compliance across all digital campaigns and activities.
- Conduct ongoing research of platforms, technologies, media strategies and emerging trends to identify opportunities for enhanced digital engagement for the campaign.
- Other duties, as assigned, such as the preparation of our annual Order of Sport Awards, community exhibits, and third-party fundraisers.
- Perform research to identify racially diverse sporting organizations, communities and influencers.
- Assist with any marketing-related task, as needed.
- Utilize Canva to create a database of assets to be used in the Order of Sport Nomination Campaign including but not limited to: posters, billboards, online advertising graphics, social media assets, and banners; resize, adjust, and optimize graphics and photos for diverse marketing platforms.
- Attend regular meetings with the Marketing, Fund Development & Communications team to ensure digital strategies, tools and content are consistently aligned with team objectives.
- Perform an audit of the promotion efforts surrounding the nomination of the Class of 2023 and identify best practice, successes and key learnings.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate must be a recent graduate of a marketing and/or communications program and under the age of 30, per YCW guidelines, at the beginning date of the term. Candidates must have good interpersonal skills and computer knowledge using MS office. Extensive familiarity with social media platforms and experience with WordPress would be an asset.
Previous marketing and communications experience is required. Excellent English writing skills, organizational skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet deliverables is very important. Basic French writing and reading skills would be an asset. Excellent storytelling abilities is required. To be successful in this role, the intern must also possess: the ability to work both independently and as part of a team; excellent communication abilities (verbal, nonverbal and written); exceptional client service; adaptability and flexibility to manage shifting priorities; excellent grammar, spelling and creative writing skills with the ability to tailor marketing materials to resonate with target audiences; and, comfort with public speaking and working with participants from a wide demographic. The intern will be required to obtain a valid vulnerable sector police check.
HOW TO APPLY
The preliminary application process will include submitting a resume (max. 2 pages) and cover letter (max. 1 page) along with a writing sample (one page or less) that demonstrates their written communication skills as one document to Becki Monaghan, Marketing Lead at [email protected]. The cover letter, resume, and writing sample should be combined as one PDF. The application will be assessed on proper use of grammar and spelling, creativity, relevance to the role (i.e., does the writing/collateral sample showcase the candidate’s ability to evoke emotion), candidate credentials/experience and the ability to follow specific instructions. Applicants who do not follow the above guidelines will not be invited for an interview.
Interviews will be conducted by the Marketing Lead and Vice President, Marketing, Fund Development & Communications between July 24 – July 28, 2023 (subject to funding). A maximum of 5 candidates will be interviewed.
Interviews will consist of two parts: (1) A 3-minute presentation by the candidate of their portfolio or a sample of marketing element they have developed or managed (website, blog, social media feed, etc.); and, (2) a standard set of interview questions to determine their YCW-BCH eligibility and fit for the role.=

Eligibility:
The intern will be required to obtain a valid vulnerable sector police check.
As per the 2022 YCW-BCH eligibility requirements, an individual may be eligible for an internship if they:
- Will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;
- Are legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Are a college or university graduate; and
- Are between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- Are unemployed or underemployed;
- Are not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program.
- Are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
- Are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
