Job Description
The Learner Services department’s role in student success is to create a culture and environment that unleashes the full potential of all the students at SAIT. The Opportunity


SAIT Youth Initiatives is hiring a casual facilitator to deliver our Digital Youth Programs.


SAIT’s Digital Youth Programs is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Digital Youth Programs Facilitator to join our team. As a facilitator, you will be responsible for instructing and engaging youth in grades 6-12, parents, and teachers about emerging technologies through our Digital Youth Programs. If you have a strong understanding of technology, enjoy working with youth, and can foster an interactive and inclusive learning environment, we encourage you to apply. This position reports to the Manager, Strategic Youth Initiatives.


Emerging Technologies of Interest: 3D Printing and Modelling, Extended Reality, Internet of Things, Raspberry Pi, Coding, Cybersecurity, and Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.


This is a casual position with flexible hours based on program scheduling. This role is a face-to-face role involving working either on campus or in a secondary school as needed.


Regular schedule will be Monday to Friday approximately 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. There will at times be a need for weekend (Saturdays) and evening work. Must be available for both.


The Role


Program Delivery:


  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking
  • Comfortable to deliver programming to a youth/parent audience or teacher audience
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to participants during program sessions
  • Adapt lesson plans to accommodate varying learning needs and skill levels of participants
  • Instruct and lead Digital Youth Programs for youth in grades 6-12 and parents


Technical Expertise:


  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of emerging technologies and their practical applications
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in digital technology to enhance program content
  • Troubleshoot technical issues that may arise during program sessions and provide solutions or seek assistance when needed


Safety and Well-being:


  • Ensure the safety and well-being of participants during program activities
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to any emergencies or incidents that may occur
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and guidelines to create a secure environment


Communication and Reporting:


  • Document and report any incidents, concerns, or achievements to program coordinators.     
  • Ensure programs surveys completed for delivery of each workshop
  • Provide regular progress updates and feedback on participants' engagement and skill development
  • Maintain effective communication with participants, parents/guardians, teachers, and program specialists


Qualifications & Experience


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Time management skills and the ability to multi-task and set priorities are essential. Candidate should be able to work independently as they will be responsible for delivering digital youth workshops for large groups with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work evenings or weekends when necessary to meet the needs of programs and the larger Youth Initiatives team
  • Self-motivated and driven
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • A minimum of 2 years delivering programming for a youth audience
  • Valid Alberta driver’s license and access to a vehicle is preferred but not required
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. (transport signs, workshop materials and supplies) and to push a cart weighing approximately 40 lbs
  • The ability to adapt quickly to rapidly changing circumstances and deadlines
  • Patience and sincere desire to work with children and youth of all backgrounds and abilities
  • Ability to create an inclusive learning environment for junior high and high school aged youth
  • Background in computer science, digital technologies, or education
  • A minimum of a high school diploma, with an interest in computer science, emerging technologies, or related topic areas
  • Punctual and able to adapt to a changing schedule
