Founded in 2007, today, B2Gold has three operating gold mines and numerous development and exploration projects in various countries including Mali, the Philippines, Namibia, Canada, Colombia, Finland and Uzbekistan. This year, B2Gold forecasts gold production to be 1,000,000 – 1,080,000 ounces.
Position
Research Associate, Sustainability & Climate Change
Introduction
Reporting to the Director, Sustainability and supporting the corporate Sustainability team, this position provides support to the corporate sustainability team and is responsible for the climate change research that contributes to B2Gold’s Climate Strategy and B2Gold’s green house gas emissions reduction targets. The ideal candidate will be a bright undergraduate or graduate student from an accredited university or college that is looking for a real-life opportunity to apply the knowledge from their educations and make a positive impact on a company that is extremely sustainability conscious. The individual will need to be proactive self-starter that works well independently under minimum supervision but also collaboratively in a team environment.
Location
This position will be based at B2Gold Corporate Office in Vancouver, Canada with a flexible work arrangement option available.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives.
- Research and communicate key emerging information and trends relating to global climate risk management practices, as needed; and
- Collaborate with Corporate and site staff to identify data sources and collect information necessary to execute work;
- Support the completion of GHG emissions inventories;
- Develop a Marginal Abatement Cost Curve for decarbonization of B2Gold’s global operations, primarily focused on its mine operations and mine construction projects;
- Support development of climate action plans at B2Gold’s mine operations;
- Analyze and present business cases for capital and/or operational initiatives to reduce GHG emissions at B2Gold’s mine operations to support B2Gold’s Climate Strategy and GHG emissions reduction targets;
Required Qualifications/Skills
- Keen attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills;
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study, such as Environmental, Sustainability, Earth Sciences, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Atmospheric Science/Meteorology, Chemistry, Physics, or related subjects (or at least have completed three years of studies and working towards completing the degree);
- Good understanding and hands on experience/projects on environmental and sustainability related topics;
- Ability to be proactive, professional and thrive in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
- Ability to work with different cultures across different time zones;
- Ability to work under pressure with a high level of commitment to meeting deadlines and producing high quality work;
- Superb multi-tasking, organizational, time-management skills with ability to prioritize;
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Participation in a formal co-op program by an accredited university or college is an asset;
- French language ability considered an asset.
Job Demands/Physical Requirements:
- This position is based out of our Vancouver head office on a full-time basis for a 12 months’ term with potential domestic and international travels required (~ 10% of the time) which may be in short notice.
