Position Title – Mechanical Engineering Co-op/Intern (6-Month Term)
Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will lead a comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOM) data scrubbing and optimization initiative of our Boilers to improve its accuracy and completeness in preparation for IBC’s new ERP – Oracle.
Location: Burnaby, BC
Reporting to: Engineering Manager
Duration: 6 months, target start in Sept 2023
Essential Functions
· Conduct a three-way comparison between the BOM, Production Unit, and CAD model to capture inconsistencies.
· Review the SolidWorks assembly models of our boilers and conduct a comprehensive comparison with the production units to ascertain their level of completeness and accuracy while ensuring that the models align with the BOMS in our ERP.
· Update existing SolidWorks components and assembly models (parts and assemblies) and BOMs as needed.
· Collaborate closely with Production team members to ensure the use of the latest BOM for boiler assembly and record any discrepancies.
· Assist the Engineering team with creating ECNs.
Qualifications
Education:
- Engineering Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or in progress.
Work Experience:
· Proficient in 3D CAD modelling software – SolidWorks
· Strong computer software literacy skills (including MS Office)
· Working with, testing and knowledge of hydronic systems
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Ability to systematically work through a problem and find creative solutions to issues
· Have basic mechanical aptitude, including the ability to use tools.
· Comfortable working with mechanical assemblies and hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, calipers, etc.
· Working knowledge of material properties and basic manufacturing/fabrication technology and processes (casting, molding, forming, machining, joining, coating/plating)
· Basic understanding of Engineering documentation, improvement and revision control processes is considered an asset.
· Excellent verbal and written communications skills
· Attention to detail.
· Able to work effectively alone and in a team environment.
