Job Description
About Us

Merritt is a small, caring, resilient city located in the stunning Nicola Valley of BC. We are surrounded by a spectacular sprawling rugged landscape at the hub of the Coquihalla highway mountain pass. Living in Merritt, you'll find short commutes, big city amenities and an abundance of outdoor and indoor recreation and leisure amenities for all ages and preferences.

Working at the City of Merritt, you'll join a team of caring coworkers and innovative roll-up-your-sleevers who are passionate about public service and determined to make a difference. Whether we're delivering essential services, running community recreation programs, or more, our team takes pride in helping Merritt to be an attractive, sustainable, healthy and safe small city. We work together to build a respectful and inclusive workplace that reflects our values and the community we serve.

The Opportunity

Join us for a unique 4 month paid internship that offers personal and professional development. The Systems Analyst Internship will give you an opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting business technology end-users in a Microsoft Office environment, explain technical information to a non-technical audience, work with networks and services, and provide business hardware support for desktop and laptop computers, wireless communication devices, telecommunication systems and other peripheral devices.

This opportunity is ideal for a versatile, organized, multi-tasker who has strong technical skills, an understanding of customer needs and a drive for learning and growth. Along with your attention to detail, interpersonal communication and leadership skills, you understand that success comes from your focus on customer service, ability to learn and problem-solving skills.

Requirements

If you are thinking of gaining valuable hands-on experience while putting your recent post-secondary education into practice, this opportunity with our team is for you.

Ideally, you are in or have recently graduated from a post-secondary Information Technology degree or diploma program. You have experience supporting business technology, learning about networks, supporting Windows, Chrome and other environments and troubleshooting. Your customer service orientation, technical skills, curiosity, and analytical problem-solving are the foundational skills you will build on.

For new hires and those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, employment is conditional on a satisfactory police information check.

Benefits

There has never been a better time to join the City of Merritt team. We have a wide range of rewarding career opportunities, competitive rewards and opportunities for growth.

The City of Merritt is an equal-opportunity employer. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and are committed to building a respectful and inclusive workplace that reflects the community we serve. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.
