Job Description

We are currently seeking a Content Strategist to join our team.
The Content Strategist plays a key role in leading First West Credit Union’s content marketing program, facilitating effective collaboration across the Marketing, Communications and Community team to plan and produce compelling, interconnected content that engages and educates our organization’s target audiences. This is a high-impact role that directs content strategy and designs the digital content pathways that lead our target audiences on journeys from awareness to deeper relationships with our credit union. As part of a larger team that shares responsibility for content creation, this role provides guidance on best practices for content creation and supports the design of processes that bring multiple contributors together to enable them to apply their specialized strengths to fulfilling our objectives for content. This role also plays a hands-on part in regularly creating awesome content.
Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day
  1. Content Strategy Leadership: Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Marketing, Communications and Community team, builds and continuously refines an industry-leading content strategy that drives engagement, consideration, and conversion with First West’s target audiences. Develops content metrics aligned to the organization’s business goals and takes accountability for executing against them. Continually communicates the vision for the content strategy, inspiring a spirit of collaboration and helping multiple contributors understand their part in fulfilling it.
  2. Content Process Leadership: Facilitate content ideation, creation, and deployment processes, empowering colleagues from across our Marketing, Communications and Community team to bring the content strategy to life collaboratively. Create and manage the day-to-day frameworks and cycles where the team gets inspiration for new content. Brainstorms ideas, undertakes content planning, designs content journeys/maps targeting specific audience personas, creates the content, synchronizes content with marketing campaigns and promotions, builds strategic deployment plans and executes them, measures success, and captures learnings to continuously inform and improve the content strategy.
  3. Content Journey Mapping: Leads the content journey mapping processes, designing content ecosystems that strategically interconnect content and engineer the target audience’s journeys into deeper levels of engagement, from awareness to consideration to conversion. Gather intelligence to anticipate target audiences’ needs and desires, translating it into connected digital content experiences that increase overall engagement.
  4. Content Calendaring and Traffic Management: Create and manage a team-wide content calendar. Using digital collaboration tools, ensure that First West’s content – produced by many different content creators across the team – is planned strategically in advance and carefully scheduled for deployment to the right audiences at the right times. Assist with content creation resourcing decisions according to the calendar.
  5. Content Coaching: Inspire and guide content-creating teammates to embrace best practices and create amazing content that performs, regularly sharing expert advice. Develop standardized content modes and templates to empower more content creators across the team to produce on-brand content at scale. Provides editorial oversight and gives feedback. Collaborates closely with the Marketing Platforms and Performance team to deploy content, measuring effectiveness and incorporates learnings into ongoing content planning.
  6. Content Creation: In collaboration with other content creators, produces compelling content in multiple mediums that targets specific personas, aligns with marketing campaigns, and advances larger brand objectives – captivating the attention of the audiences, providing real value for the audiences, and inspiring further engagement. Focuses specifically on creating content that is encountered at the beginning of the audience journey, driving brand awareness and initial engagement.

Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Experience leveraging content automated environment with a modern CRM system like Salesforce or Microsoft Dynamics an asset
  • Experience working with budgets and managing relationships with external content creation vendors
  • Remarkable strategic content planning skills with proven ability to build maps of content ecosystems
  • Effective team coach, skilled at providing regular feedback and guidance to colleagues and peers in a way that empowers them to deliver better results and elevates their abilities over time
  • Experience implementing content optimization practices, leading keyword research, and applying SEO best practices
  • Outstanding analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to create and manage master content calendars with multiple stakeholders, ensuring timely, coordinated distribution and adherence brand standards
  • Bachelor’s degree or college/trade/tech school diploma preferably in marketing or communications; professional designations or certifications in content marketing preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal teamwork skills – the ability to build trusting relationships, facilitate enthusiastic collaboration and enable multiple content creators and stakeholders to work together effectively
  • Digital proficiency with workplace software and collaboration tools including Microsoft 365 and Adobe CS
  • Exceptional content creation and storytelling skills in multiple mediums – specifically, exceptional writing and editing skills, as well as editorial oversight skills for video production
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving, with the ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs, with the ability to successfully multi-task
  • Displays an understanding of risk and risk ownership by being able to demonstrate adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with exceptional planning skills; able to manage multiple deadline-driven objectives involving multiple stakeholders; able to help lead and direct complex processes
  • Experience working in or with the financial services industry and/or personal finance knowledge an asset
  • 5 or more years’ experience in content strategy and creation, facilitating collaboration with multiple content creators
  • Proven ability to research, interview, and draft content

You’ve helped other brands up their content game. You can point to a brand (or brands) you’ve worked with previously where you’ve helped to create or enhance a great content marketing program across multiple owned channels include websites, mobile apps, email and social networks. 
You’re a consummate marketer who balances left brain and right brain strengths: strong organizational skills, planning abilities and attention to detail balanced with imaginative thinking and artistic creativity.
