Job Description

Job Summary:

The Construction Supervisor will oversee and coordinate manpower for all track maintenance and construction projects. They will be responsible for managing a team of supervisors and track persons, working closely with management and customers, and ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with safety regulations and industry standards. The Construction Supervisor will take pride in being “hands-on” with all aspects of projects and will be willing to fill any role on a given day as needed to ensure smooth day-to-day operations and uphold PGM’s reputation for high quality track work.


Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Project Management: Manage all track maintenance and construction projects from initiation to completion. Oversee implementation of comprehensive project plans, including resource allocation, timelines, and milestones. Work with Operations Supervisor to ensure that each project is properly prepared for prior to commencement and debriefed upon job completion.
  2. Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing team of construction professionals. Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure the team's success. Cultivate an environment of respect while ensuring that all team members remain accountable to their duties and goals.
  3. Communication: Communicate constantly with team members, management, and customers regarding all projects. The Construction Supervisor will know the status of all projects at any given time and will be able to solve (or escalate as needed) any issues to ensure that projects stay safe, on time and within budget.
  4. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare regular progress reports and project documentation for company management and clients. Keep detailed records of all project activities.
  5. Safety Compliance: Champion a safety-first culture, adhering to industry safety standards, and implementing robust safety protocols. Conduct regular safety inspections and ensure all employees are trained on safety procedures.
  6. Quality Assurance: Work with Quality Control Specialist to uphold a commitment to delivering high-quality results. Implement and improve on-job processes to ensure that projects meet or exceed specified standards and pass all quality control inspections.
  7. Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond to emergencies, such as derailments or severe weather events, to assess track damage and aid in restoration efforts.


Qualifications

Technical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to analyze complex data and make accurate judgments.
  • Valid TIGS Training
  • Proven experience as a Manager or Track Supervisor in the railroad industry (Ideally 10-15+ years of railroad experience).
  • Excellent communication skills to prepare detailed reports and collaborate with teams effectively.
  • Bachelors degree, High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in using track tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Understanding of federal (Transport Canada) railroad-specific (CP/CN) regulations pertaining to railroad safety and compliance.
  • High knowledge of railroad track construction, maintenance, and inspection practices.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
