Compliance Process Specialist


Apex Systems is a global IT services provider and our staffing practice has an opening for a Compliance Process Specialist with NERC experience, knowledge in Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and/or Operation and Protection (O&P), and knowledge of the electric power infrastructure, systems (SCADA), bulk power system to place at our client, a leader in the Utility industry. We have personally qualified the requirement with the hiring manager.


Client: A main leader in the Utility industry.


Terms: 12 month contract. Strong possibility of extension.


Perks: Remote work.


Location: Trail, BC. Travel will be needed occasionally.

  • Promote an environment of continuous improvement in the BC Standards compliance program and develop methodologies to promote a culture of compliance and reliability.
  • Responsible to accurately prepare, document and maintain evidence for internal review, compliance audits, self-certifications or spot checks.
  • Manage changes to processes to meet MRS requirements to be efficient and effective while minimizing business impact. Carry out professional measuring and monitoring, with provision of feedback on performance of processes and procedures.
  • Project manage the implementation of new standards or changes to existing standards.
  • Communicate CIP and O&P compliance tasks to facilitate key messages to internal business units, provide presentations/communication to employees as required.
  • Support the development and implementation of internal review, self-certification and audit processes
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including BC Reliability Standards Internal review, Internal Audit, WECC and NERC.
  • Evaluate, design, execute, and monitor business processes related to the standards.
  • Develop, implement and maintain all Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) compliance policies, programs and procedures for the electrical grid in accordance with established provincial/international obligations; ensure adherence to established protocols, procedures and company obligations under regulatory standards and legislation are met.
  • Support the Manager, Assets and Compliance in all aspects of MRS, including Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Operations and Protection (O&P), external contacts and new initiatives.
  • Participate in applicable industry meetings, stakeholder consultation, and internal groups relevant to NERC standards development and implementation.
  • Collaborate with the MRS team and other departments.
  • Experience with compliance planning, implementation and measures is considered an asset.


Technical Competencies


  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership with strong interpersonal, written and verbal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information system infrastructure such as network architecture, software systems, backup and disaster recovery strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to perform strategic, tactical and operational planning activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the electric power infrastructure, systems (SCADA), bulk power system
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FERC, NERC, WECC and BC Mandatory Reliability Standards
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and/or Operation and Protection (O&P)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with all MS office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and Power Point)
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of processes, concepts and principles for the business as well as audits
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget concepts and principles
