The Opportunity:

We are seeking a skilled, creative individual to fill the role of Communications Manager. Under the direction of the Director of Communication, the Communications Manager is responsible for operationalizing our organization’s strategic objectives and supporting the Communications Director in providing day-to-day guidance and support within the team. The role requires proficiency in working with an extensive network of stakeholders internally and externally to deliver on organizational priorities. Additionally, the role supports the director in providing day-to-day guidance to the communication team and managing workflow.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Support crisis communications and issues-response by working with Policy and Programs and spokespeople on key messaging, as well as liaising with media.
  • Manage the development and publishing processes for communications plans; newsletters; key messages; event assets; editorials, press releases and statements; social media postings; and other content as required.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in the areas of communications, marketing, digital media, and measurement/analytics.
  • Act as a project manager to oversee end-to-end tactical execution of communications plans, production schedules, editorial plans, and outreach efforts. This involves working collaboratively with management, subject matter experts and contractors (internal and external).
  • Contribute to the management of the Communications budget.
  • Ensure the organization develops and maintains templates and processes to capture corporate knowledge, document communications-related protocols and streamline the delivery of services.
  • Coordinates the expansion of Pauktuutit's participation on relevant social media outlets.
  • Oversee the development of communications reporting and analytics that can inform decision-making and translate data into actionable recommendations.
  • Support the Director in planning consulting requirements including recruiting, interviewing, selecting, contracting, onboarding, and managing an appropriate number of contractors as needed, including the provision of on-going coaching and feedback to develop their ability to understand and respond to our needs.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Leverage traditional and social media, sponsored channels, and influencers to proactively ensure our messages are reaching audiences.
  • Receive, manage, and respond to communications and media inquiries under the direction of the Director of Communications.
  • Identify and manage media training of internal spokespeople.
  • Oversee the provision of communication support services – primarily brand and key message management, website management, design services, translation services, and production services – including contract management and invoicing.
  • Respond to media requests by working with subject matter experts to determine appropriate spokespeople and responses and managing the approval and publishing process for statements.
  • Develop relationships and collaborate with a network of allies (Partners, Community Leaders, other advocacy groups) and influencers to amplify communications.
  • Develop internal communications strategies that facilitate and foster information sharing across Pauktuutit on the strategy and specific projects.


Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating communications plans and materials.
  • Knowledge of front-end web design (Wordpress, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript).
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a communications role preferably in Not-for-Profit organization in a professional communications environment with experience in social media management and quick response.
  • Ability to travel and represent Pauktuutit in external meetings and events.
  • Outstanding writing skills, with experience and comfort writing for external, executive, and social media audiences. Strong attention to detail especially when editing.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, and Teams, Excel, Canva, Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro, etc.) and social media platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of available technology and platforms for media and social media monitoring, campaign measurement and analytics, online publishing, graphic design, etc.
  • Strong organizational abilities and time management skills, ability to meet deadlines, multitask and prioritize quickly changing workload.
  • An excellent communicator and storyteller, who is clear, concise, and articulate, with the ability to communicate in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Committed team player, self-motivated, and able to support the environment for high-performing, engaged teams in a hybrid workforce.


Highly Desirable Qualifications:

  • 3+ years working directly with media (earned, owned, paid and influencer media) and experience managing service providers
  • Experience working with Inuit; and knowledge of the current political, social, and economic conditions of Inuit
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant area of study (communications, journalism, marketing, etc.), supplemented with recent course work in digital marketing, or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Language – fluency in English and Inuktut (oral and written) and working knowledge of French Knowledge of the current political, social, and economic conditions of Inuit.
  • The ability to view and understand issues through a gender-based analysis lens.
  • Communication (writing, editing and bilingual production experience) demonstrated experience in editing and proofing to deadline.
