At the Fraser Basin Council (FBC), we recognize youth as a driving force for change and work to support them as they learn from and network with local leaders, identify sustainability challenges in their community, and collaboratively design their own solutions.
Want to change the world? Start with your community!
We are currently recruiting youth (aged 16-30) in the following regions for our Co-Creating a Sustainable BC initiative:
- East Kootenay (Kimberley & Cranbrook & surrounding area)
- North-Central BC (Prince George & surrounding area)
Throughout the initiative, participants can expect to engage in a mixture of online dialogue sessions, in-person meetings, outdoor field trips, and exciting trips and events in different parts of BC.

- Network with professionals from your community and throughout the province
- Work with a community of diverse youth who share a common interest in sustainability
- Acquire practical, hands-on skills
- Attend dialogue sessions and field trips focused on various sustainability-related topics
- Attend an all-cohorts camping trip to kick off the initiative (August 26 - August 30, 2023)
- Collaboratively design and develop a fully funded project that addresses a sustainability gap in your community
EQUITY AND DIVERSITY
The Fraser Basin Council and Co-Creating a Sustainable BC are committed to providing equal opportunities to all youth, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour), LGBTQ2S+ youth, new Canadians, youth with disabilities, and youth of different religious backgrounds.
The Youth Program at FBC prioritizes youth-led sustainability and climate action in BC communities. Our goals are:
- To foster a sense of community and feeling of empowerment in a diverse group of young people who share a common concern for sustainability and climate change
- To empower and equip young people with the means, knowledge, and skills to drive impactful, meaningful, and achievable change in their own communities
- To create a safe, open-minded, optimistic, and high-spirited environment where learning, exploration and innovation is fun and engaging
COMMITMENT & BENEFITS
Volunteers are expected to commit approximately 10 hours a month from August 2023 - February 2024.
Your travel and meal expenses from participating in workshops and events are covered, and we offer ASL interpretation and childcare support if needed. If you foresee any accessibility barriers or challenges, please contact us at [email protected] and let us know how we can make the initiative accessible for you.
