The Opportunity:
WSP has a new opportunity for an Archaeological Field Supervisor to join our Heritage team in on a full-time basis and temporary fixed term contract. Successful candidates can be based out of Kamloops, Kelowna, Victoria, Vancouver, Fort St. John, Castlegar, Nanaimo, and we are open to other locations across the province.
This position is ideal for someone who is looking to gain Field Director in Training days in a variety of settings. WSP Field Directors and Project Staff will work closely with you to find opportunities which supports your journey to becoming a Field Director. The successful candidate will also assist in the growth of the archaeology business in your respective region and will gain valuable and diverse work experience throughout BC as part of our regional team. You will also have the ability to work on multidisciplinary projects that provide opportunities for learning and personal growth.

A day in the life:
As an Archaeological Field Supervisor your responsibilities will include:
  • Undertaking analysis and preparing sections of technical reports
  • Carrying out archaeological survey, test excavation or mitigative excavation in cultural resources management under the direction of the Field Crew Supervisor and in compliance with Heritage Conservation Act permits;
  • Working closely with Indigenous community members while out in the field
  • Participating in WSP’s Health & Safety program
  • Working collaboratively with Indigenous community members in a respectful and collaborative manner
  • Supervising junior staff and Indigenous workers where appropriate
  • Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff and complying with the WSP Fit for Duty Policy
  • Participating in Indigenous community relationship-building
  • Assisting with leading archaeological field programs
What you'll bring to WSP ...
The successful candidate will have:
  • An ability to contribute to a positive teamwork environment as well as to work independently
  • Proficiency with standard data collection equipment including GPS and hand-held tablets
  • Solid MS Office skills
  • Experience working with Indigenous Communities and Peoples. Preference will be given to candidates with positive relationships with First Nations in the Southern Interior area
  • Working towards your Field Director status in the BC Interior Plateau culture area
  • Proven oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • UTV and First Aid Certification would be considered an asset
  • A degree in Archaeology or Anthropology or an undergraduate degree with equivalent experience
  • An ability and willingness to perform field work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Valid driver’s licence (Class 5)
  • Experience identifying, recording and evaluating the full range of archaeological site types expected in the BC Interior Plateau culture area
