Job Description


Purpose of this position:


The Field Technician is responsible for implementation, support, maintenance and inventory of infrastructure and hardware in the department portfolio, in line with the department’s objective of delivering highest quality services to multiple terminal facilities in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.


Key Responsibilities


  • Performs or assists team members in monitoring and troubleshooting service performance problems.
  • Ensures clear, concise and accurate documentation for infrastructure systems is maintained.
  • Coordinates clearing of trouble tickets with other groups and organizations.
  • Provides instruction, assistance, and guidance to other technicians as required.
  • Attached equipment; updates necessary logs and completes reports.
  • Performs required incidental and preventative maintenance on network
  • Collaborates with others to resolve issues; including external partners.
  • Identifies and evaluates opportunities to gain efficiencies through automation. Lobbies for approval where appropriate (ROI), implementing solutions as approved.
  • Maintains limited spare hardware inventory.
  • Performs functions associated with the design, development, installation, maintenance, and performance assessment of approved solutions.


Qualifications, Experience & Skills


  • Understanding of incident, change, and problem management processes.
  • Practical knowledge of automated system and network monitoring tools.
  • 3 years of equivalent experience within a technically challenging and diverse environment; ideally in an industrial setting.
  • Must be willing to work day, evening or night hours, emergency call-outs, weekends and holidays as required.
  • Strong team orientation and ability to contribute to realization of team goals and customer satisfaction.
  • Working knowledge of IT infrastructure including vehicle mounted data terminals, wireless networks, position detection, OCR and monitoring/alerting systems.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to complete activities within time constraints.
  • Minimum 2 years post-secondary relevant technical training.
  • Software development and/or database management experience are considered desirable assets.
