We take pride in our outstanding and dedicated staff. Many of us have worked here for 15 years or more, and remain as engaged and committed as we were on day 1, providing a strong sense of community and continuity for our residents.

Join us!

Our team is growing – we’re currently searching for an Activity Director to play a pivotal role in enriching the lives of our residents. In this position you'll take on a range of duties, from coordinating and developing programs to training and supervising staff and volunteers.

As an ideal candidate for this role you’re a compassionate, enthusiastic and energetic professional in the field of seniors’ recreation. You’re a hands-on leader with strong organizational skills and a natural ability to connect with residents, colleagues and volunteers alike.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and evaluate leisure programs and services to meet the social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual needs of our residents.
  • Participate as an active member of the interdisciplinary and management teams, regarding both resident care and residence operations.
  • Coordinate the Volunteer program and the Pastoral Care program.
  • Facilitate the activities of the Residents’ Council where appropriate.
  • Hire, train, and manage part-time staff.
  • Provide opportunities wherever possible to involve residents in the planning, provision and evaluation of activities.
  • Assess individual resident needs and report progress or concerns to the Director of Care.
  • Organize and participate in fundraising activities where appropriate.
  • Manage departmental budget.
  • Promote the activity program and Unitarian House through monthly activity calendars, newsletters, daily posts, and outside services.

Key Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing a budget.
  • A natural leader and motivator, with the drive and ability to build and manage a collaborative and collegial team of staff and volunteers.
  • Certificates in management, gerontology and volunteer management is an asset.
  • Computer literate
  • Highly engaging, compassionate and empathetic to the needs of seniors.
  • Familiarity with community resources is an asset.
  • A diploma in recreation/activation, or a university degree in psychology, sociology or gerontology plus a certificate in recreation/activation.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all legislated requirements.
  • Creative and energetic, with strong organizational skills.
  • 2+ years’ experience developing and running recreational programming for seniors, preferably in a retirement home or long-term care setting.

Compensation

  • 100% employer-paid group benefits
  • $55,000-$60,000 per year
  • RRSP match program

Unitarian House welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
