Summer Activity Worker Jobs

Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Physically carry out the duties of the position.

Operate related equipment, such as a 11-25 passenger, lift equipped van.

Participate as an active member of the interdisciplinary and management teams, regarding both resident care and residence operations.

Certificates in management, gerontology and volunteer management is an asset.

Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all legislated requirements.

Hire, train, and manage part-time staff.

2+ years’ experience developing and running recreational programming for seniors, preferably in a retirement home or long-term care setting.

Creative and energetic, with strong organizational skills.

Liaises between resident, community resources and other members of the interdisciplinary team.

Provides input to the team regarding the residents' participation in designated activities and programs as appropriate, and communicates any related concerns.

As part of the interdisciplinary team, participates in team meetings and provides input regarding activity programs for assigned patients.

Completes required reports, records and workload statistics; maintains files and records in accordance with program standards and procedures.

Performs other related duties as required.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Informs contracted housekeeping of monthly set up requirements; monitors, records and/or raises issues to the Recreation Therapist.

Provides direction to volunteers during activity programs, demonstrates related techniques, and provides feedback as required.

Prepares and maintains bulletin boards, flip charts and other materials advertising available activities.

Organizes and maintains program activity areas.

Provides input and feedback with respect to recreation/leisure activities at regular planning meetings, such as resident participation in activities.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum grade 12 plus proof of formal post secondary education in progress.

Demonstrated skill and ability in the job functions associated with the position.

Update the electrical panel boxes identifying what breakers work with what electrical outlets, lights equipment.

Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, etc.as assigned.

Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the Administrator or Maintenance Coordinator.

Ability to take direction, to work independently and to work as a member of a team.

Two year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
