Calian Emergency Management has an exciting opportunity to assist Fire Service MAster Plans and Community Risk Assessments
Position Overview
Calian’s Emergency Management Team is currently seeking Fire and Emergency Service Leaders who are interested in performing Independent Contractor services on upcoming projects in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario or Eastern Canada
Responsibilities
  • Fire Service MasterPlans and Community Risk Assesments
Qualifications
The ideal candidate meets all of the following requirements:
  • Previous experience working with unionized emergency services environments is preferred.
  • Strong report writing and written communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge of fire and emergency services accreditation processes across Canada would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working within a an EMS organization would be an asset.
  • Located in BC (Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland preferred), Ontario, Alberta, or Eastern Canada would be an asset.
  • Experience conducting Community Risk Assessments (or similar) related to the provision of fire and emergency services is required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team, supporting and working alongside diverse clients and partners, is required.
  • Recognized experience as a strong communicator and facilitator, as well as high-levels of political awareness and acumen are required.
  • In-depth experience related to fire and emergency services leadership structures, governance, operations, planning, and response, preferably at the senior executive (out-of-scope) level. Experience as a municipal fire and/or emergency services leader, such as in a Chief or Deputy Chief role, in a mid-large-size Canadian municipality would be preferred.
  • A degree (Masters Preferred) in Emergency Services, Public Safety, Emergency Management, Disaster and Emergency Studies, or similar, from a recognized post-secondary, institution is required.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience working within emergency communications (9-1-1, PSAP, etc.) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with fire services organizations like the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs (or similar) would be an asset.
  • Previous experience completing Fire Service Master Planning, or equivalent, is preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of Canadian and provincial fire and emergency services legislation, regulations, and related governance is required.
