Emergency Disaster Services Specialist Jobs

Experience in project planning, management, assessment, and evidence-based decision-making.

Knowledge of and/or experience working within emergency communications (9-1-1, PSAP, etc.) is an asset.

Knowledge of and/or experience working within a an EMS organization would be an asset.

In depth knowledge of Canadian and provincial fire and emergency services legislation, regulations, and related governance is required.

Experience conducting Community Risk Assessments (or similar) related to the provision of fire and emergency services is required.

Previous experience completing Fire Service Master Planning, or equivalent, is preferred.

Recognized experience as a strong communicator and facilitator, as well as high-levels of political awareness and acumen are required.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

Completion of post-secondary education in disaster and emergency management or a related field, preferably an Undergraduate Degree.

Oversees EDS leadership development for key incident management roles.

Responsible for management of the emergency disaster services database.

Diploma or certificate in disaster and emergency management an asset.

Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in the health care system.

Strong interpersonal and teambuilding skills.

Demonstrated understanding of group process and experience resolving complex multi-stakeholder issues.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Experience with financial analysis of operating budgets would be an asset.

Demonstrated leadership ability in complex and highly changeable situations.

Experience in preparing and presenting to senior management levels

Utilize and validate Emergency Management concepts and practices within our program

Investigate, comprehend and interpret various municipal, provincial and federal codes and regulations related to emergency management of people and assets

Utilize best practice project delivery concepts in supporting all aspects of our teams Emergency Management preparedness and planning deliverables

Engage internal/external subject matter experts during the development and maintenance of various Emergency Management projects

Facilitate project teams and inter-departmental working groups aimed at developing and aligning Emergency Management processes

Experience in preparing and presenting to senior management levels

Minimum three (3) years' experience in emergency planning, operational contingency planning or project management and program development.

Demonstrated knowledge of emergency management program development, applicable legislation and industry standards, disaster exercise initiatives and current emergency management practices.

Strong writing, program planning, evaluation, and project management skills.

Leads and manages special projects as assigned, including projects responding to Regional goals, or Department and Branch requirements.  

Provides subject matter expert advice and recommendations applying current knowledge of best practices and applicable legislative, regulatory, and professional standards.

Experience and/or training in emergency planning, response and exercises, and business continuity planning.

Minimum five (5) years recent clinical experience

Experience developing and facilitating strategies consistent with the principles of Organizational Health

Demonstrated experience in financial principles and applications (business planning, budget preparation)

Baccalaureate degree in a health-related discipline

Master’s degree relevant to the position (Nursing, Health Administration, Business) considered an asset

Demonstrated commitment to employee and self-development and continuous quality improvement

Experience providing leadership, performance management and team building in a healthcare setting

Experience implementing operational policies, practices, procedures, standards, and medical risk management protocols

Significant pre-hospital experience working with ground and air ambulance programs as a paramedic or registered nurse

Demonstrated experience in a leadership role overseeing pre-hospital care providers

Experience working collaboratively with community partners and stakeholders to build capacity

Experience monitoring and managing operational budgets would be an asset

Requirement to have previous project management experience and estimator experience

Monitor financial performance of project throughout execution to ensure budgetary performance and effective management of scope change

Competent in conflict and crisis management.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science , Project Management

Operations experience is an asset, but not a requirement

Manages assigned projects, ensuring effective teamwork and communication, high standards of work quality and organizational performance and continuous learning.

3 years emergency management experience, preferable in healthcare;

Certifications in Incident Management/Command Systems and Exercise Design;

Project management experience is an asset;

Experience in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs;

Excellent planning, analytical and organizational skills;

Evidence of effective interpersonal, leadership, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills;

Participate in Quality Management process and continue to improve skills based on feedback received

Previous Business Development or Customer Relationship Management Experience preferred

Strong verbal communication and listening skills; able to ask key questions and navigate a conversation with prospective clients

Outstanding customer service skills and a professional phone manner, including the ability to build strong client/partner relationships

Answer incoming calls from the general public and industry professionals to initiate emergency responses for various industries

Respond to work alone alarms for individuals working in isolation or in dangerous situations

Demonstrated proficiency in program planning, financial and human resource management, oral and written communication and interpersonal effectiveness

Minimum five (5) years recent clinical experience in a position included in this portfolio

Experience developing and facilitating strategies consistent with the principles of Organizational Health

Bachelor’s Degree in a health related discipline

Master's Degree or Leadership certificate an asset

Demonstrated commitment to employee and self-development and continuous quality improvement

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for this position

Grade 12 plus successful completion of a one year secretarial or business program, or 1 year recent clerical/secretarial experience required

Computer training on software programs such as Microsoft Word, Windows, Internet, Microsoft Outlook and meditech systems required; computer experience is required

Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills are required; must be an effective team player

Recent NVCI training / certification considered an asset

Responsible for obtaining and accurately updating client information at time of registration, including demographic and provider information
