Job Description
Reporting to the Manager of Emergency & Disaster Management (EDM), the EDM Specialist facilitates the building of the hospital’s capability to effectively respond to internal and external emergencies/disasters by developing and managing the administration of response plans, resources, tools, education, training and exercises for staff, physicians and affiliates at all levels of the organization. With expertise in emergency management operations, the EDM Specialist is a professional role model and resource for staff at all levels of HHS, collaborating and participating in the development of program/project specific plans and resources that promote the corporate objectives of the EDM office. With the support of the EDM Manager, the EDM Specialist is expected to assist in the execution of all phases of emergency management including the response to and follow up after incidents by supporting hospital teams respond to active emergencies and by facilitating debriefs along with the execution of identified action items. The EDM Specialist assists the EDM team in ensuring HHS is compliant with regulatory and professional standards and with developing new best practices to benefit both HHS and the overall healthcare emergency management field.
Undergraduate Degree in Emergency Disaster Management or equivalent;
  • Project management experience is an asset;
  • Excellent written, oral communication, and coaching skills;
  • 3 years emergency management experience, preferable in healthcare;
  • Ability to operate and perform in high stress environments
  • Results driven and focussed on stakeholder success;
  • Evidence of effective interpersonal, leadership, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks accordingly;
  • Able to travel between sites for meetings and training activities;
  • Excellent planning, analytical and organizational skills;
  • Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision;
  • Experience in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs;
  • Ability to gather and synthesize data to reach understanding of situations;
  • Proficiency in using computer & software technology eg. SharePoint, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) etc.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team;
  • Certifications in Incident Management/Command Systems and Exercise Design;

In Addition To Overseeing The HHS EDM Program, EDM Also
As part of HHS, the Emergency & Disaster Management department is an integral part of the support services, providing emergency and disaster management services such as developing plans, training, and providing direct incident support to the multiple Hospital sites.
  • Coordinates the Code Captain program
  • Serves as EDM liaison with hospital partners
  • Reviews and maintains corporate Emergency Operations Plans and supporting documentation.
  • Ensures HHS is meeting regulatory and professional standards for EDM
