Job Description

This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).


Salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the Academic Teaching Staff (ATS) agreement .


Location


Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton. This role is in-person.

Working for the Department/Faculty


The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is among the top ECE Departments in Canada. We help students develop the skills they need to dream of and invent the technology of the future through hands-on experiences in state-of-the-art labs and instruction from skilled faculty. The Department has over 60 faculty members with expertise in the areas of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering and Intelligent Systems. We have world-class research and teaching facilities and a range of research and education programs. We received the Rising to the Challenge Award in 2021 from the ECE Department Heads Association for our innovative response to teaching during the pandemic. Our graduate program attracts outstanding students from schools worldwide and presently has an enrollment of over 450 students, including approximately 220 PhD students.


Position


The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering invites applications for a full-time Academic Teaching Staff position to lead undergraduate program curriculum renewal. In consultation with the Chair and Vice Chair, the successful candidate will be dedicated to the transformation of the undergraduate curriculum, including renewal of the existing courses and programs, and the identification of opportunities to add new offerings.


Duties


ECE has a strong culture of hand-on-learning in our program, including our award-winning lab kits. The incumbent ’s role will be to enhance existing , and develop new engagement strategies to improve the student experience while ensuring that CEAB accreditation requirements and program objectives are met.


They will also be expected to coordinate the collection, analysis and reporting of data for the purposes of accreditation, curriculum improvement , and innovation, and also for engaging with internal and external stakeholders.


The incumbent will be responsible for creating, maintaining and updating a repository of instructional materials related to the curriculum, to provide support for the mapping of learning outcomes for courses and graduate attributes for the programs. A key focus of this development will include promoting our safety culture and ensuring that safety principles are conveyed at strategic points in our undergraduate curriculum.


The incumbent will also assist in the preparation of documents for the governance/approval process related to course syllabus and curriculum changes of both existing and new programs .


Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will be tasked with instructing at least one Electrical & Computer Engineering undergraduate program course per year. Delivery of other undergraduate courses will also be considered based on the department ’s need and experience.


Candidates must hold a MSc /PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a closely related field. Significant interest and/or experience in curriculum development and/or management will be considered in lieu of a graduate degree. The successful candidate must be or become a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta. This is a 2-year appointment, subject to extension based upon funding availability.
