CCOUNTANT
PERMANENT PART TIME

This position is responsible for accounting duties, financial analysis, and backup of the payroll function. Responsibilities include reporting to funders, monthly journal entries, account reconciliations and backup of other finance functions.The position supervises and directs the Finance Clerk function and reports directly to the Finance Manager.
·Create and post monthly journal entries for prepaid expenses, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank entries while reviewing for reasonableness and accuracy.
·Create invoices as required, track and follow up on any outstanding AR invoices.
·Assist in the preparation of the annual budget, monthly budget reviews and special projects as required.
·Track, allocate and reconcile grants from various funding agencies.
·Prepare quarterly reports for ad hoc programs including expense reallocation and commentary notes accurately and efficiently before the deadlines.
·File quarterly HST return, annual property tax rebates, annual charity return, and monthly EHT returns.
·Perform monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts as assigned.
·Provide backup function to accounts payable and payroll as required.
·Provide analytical support to the Finance Manager and management team as required.
·Identify gaps in internal controls to Finance Manager and make recommendations as appropriate.
·Assist in developing and revising financial policies and documenting standard operating procedures.
·Supervise and direct the work of the Finance Clerk
Hours of work are 30 per week. The normal workday is 8 hours, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Working in a busy office environment with frequent interruptions.

What you will bring
ØUniversity degree in Business-Accounting or related field
ØAccounting and payroll experience in a demanding environment.
ØCPA Designation (or enrolment at the CPA intermediate level as a minimum).
ØThree (3) years full-time experience in using computer-based financial software
ØThorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, and payroll practices.Enrolment in the Certified Professional Accounting program at an intermediate level or higher is a minimum requirement.
ØAbility to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information and producing financial reports.
ØStrong communication and interpersonal skills.
ØUnderstanding the fundamentals of accounting and payroll databases and software.
ØMaturity, a good sense of humour and ability to work well under pressure.
ØStrong team skills and ability to work well with peers, the Board, management and funding agencies.
ØAbility to meet time sensitive deadlines.
ØVery effective organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
ØAbility to use computer-based accounting systems at a proficient level.
ØHonest and trustworthy
Ø A valid Canadian driver's license and the use of a reliable personal vehicle
Ø Minimum $2,000,000 third party liability vehicle insurance
Ø A satisfactory police record check including vulnerable sector screening
