Housing Administration and Tenant Relations Responsibilities:

Monitors and reviews tenant needs and issues and communicates the information to the Manager

Knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental illness.

Knowledge of mental health, substance abuse and addiction disorders and treatment.

Knowledge of community resources and their role in client care.

Knowledge of legislation and government policies and procedures that relate to the client population.

High degree of resourcefulness, ability to be deeply curious, and deep problem-solving skills.

Experience and ability/willingness to approach resident support using a wrap-around service approach and harm reduction philosophies.

3+ years working experience providing enhanced case management in a community-based housing or related agency

Facilitate group sessions and prepare presentations on housing related topics, evictions, landlord/tenant rights, money management

Post-secondary education in Social Services or related area of study

Superior communication skills, oral and written proficiency in English

Current and up-to-date knowledge of social services and social laws

Experience working with the Durham Welcome Centre Immigrant Services is a definite asset

Lived (i.e. personal) experience of the mental health system and/or homelessness, and a willingness to use the knowledge and skills acquired

Organize and manage Opening Doors Program evaluation processes

Conduct regular check in’s with clients in the Opening Doors Program to ensure that their tenant responsibilities are being met

Supporting project management and necessary reporting for funders

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience producing numerous written products (e.g., reports, articles, blogs, presentations)

Budget development and management is an asset.

Experience, or interest in learning, community-based research, with preference for experience in project leadership.

Experience in, or interest in learning, Indigenous research methodologies and ethics.

Highly organized and ability to work independently in a virtual office setting and self-manage to oversee progress on multiple projects simultaneously.

Additional training and/or certification in mental health, addictions and/or trauma counselling would be considered an asset

Working knowledge of community services and supports

Experience working directly with people who are experiencing homelessness or who are at imminent risk of being homeless

Experience working directly with people who are high risk for violent behavior.

In depth knowledge and understanding of the risk factors for homelessness and the barriers to achieving housing stability for vulnerable people

Computer knowledge in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software, including database programs

Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize effectively

Knowledge and Experience in leading process improvement initiatives
