Position description

The Centre for Continuing Education at Concordia University provides part-time employment to a range of subject-matter experts to teach in short-target courses and programs. Teaching tasks include the preparation of course and course plan, delivery of course, evaluating student performance and grading student work and grade submission. Instructors attend departmental meetings and attend professional development training activities related to the program.

Course description and learning outcomes

In this course, students will learn basic and advanced concepts of website design. Plenty of opportunities will be provided to students to use those concepts to create compelling websites of their own. First, students will learn how to code in HTML. Then they will move on to code-editing features and learn how to style the pages using CSS. Finally, the students will learn some more advanced concepts of web-page design, including cascading style sheets, Java script, CSS3, jQuery and layout design for the web.

By the end of this course, students should be able to:

  • Learn more advanced HTML5, CSS3, and the basics of frameworks with JavaScript.
  • Become familiar with online portfolio design and structure.
  • Create a basic portfolio website.
  • Create basic websites.
  • Learn how to create web pages in HTML5 & CSS and work with online media.
  • Manage online files with the FTP protocol.
  • Learn the fundamentals of code editors.
  • Become familiar with animation, web fonts and advanced form elements.
  • Use media queries to create websites for desktop and mobile platforms.

Qualifications and assets

  • Three years of relevant teaching experience, or equivalent with experience in Adobe Digital Graphics – Internet Development
  • Education with a BFA or BA, or equivalent with a Major in Graphic Design or Computer Science
  • Five years of relevant work experience or equivalent
