Job Description
Two Support Staff Full-time New Positions
(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)
The Talent Development Officer is the first point of contact for students, alumni, faculty, employers, and community members seeking career and employment services. The incumbent responds to walk-in, phone, email inquiries and requests for service, and maintains the Talent Hub Virtual Chat channel. Assessing and triaging client needs, the incumbent makes referrals to higher level Talent Hub services, booking appointments with Career Advisors or Career and Work Coaches as appropriate. In addition, the incumbent facilitates access to career/employment technologies and resources for clients’ self-directed use.
The Talent Development Officer provides customer service and event coordination and logistics support to the Talent Hub Employer Services team, extending assistance to the Co-operative Education, Work-Integrated Learning and Career Centre teams for recruitment and employer engagement activities. The incumbent works collaboratively with the broader Talent Hub Team to drive engagement with all stakeholder groups.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department by working on-site 5 days per week.
There are two vacancies for this position that will each be working at the following campuses:
  • 299 Doon Valley Dr, Kitchener, ON N2G 4M4
  • 108 University Ave. East, Waterloo, ON N2J 2W2
Responsibilities
Talent Hub Discovery Service
  • Facilitates client access to digital/print resources for career exploration and planning, resume development, interview preparation, and job search
  • Shares viable pathways available through Conestoga for goal attainment and guiding prospective clients to explore registration with Conestoga Career Centre employment services
  • Maintains the Talent Hub Virtual Chat channel, responding to inquiries and requests for service
  • Provides client support in accessing career/employment technologies such as MyCareer, VMock, Career Coach or other like tools for clients’ self-directed use
  • Pitches the Conestoga Career Centre employment services to support registration on the part of domestic graduates, other post-secondary graduates, and community job seekers
  • Books career advising appointments for current students and International graduates, and books intake appointments for Career Centre clients
  • Participates in outreach and marketing activities to promote Talent Hub services including social media, such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, e-newsletters, etc.
  • Participates in College events such as Open House. Coordinates and provides logistics support for college/university showcases
  • Assists clients in registering for Talent Hub activities such as workshops, information sessions, networking events, job/career fairs
  • Assesses customer needs, triaging and referring customers to higher level Talent Hub services or other College services
Employer Services
  • Reviews and approves Career job postings (non Co-op/non WIL job postings) on the MyCareer Portal
  • Responds to email, phone and virtual chat employer inquiries regarding job postings, student/graduate recruitment, Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning opportunities
  • Utilizes social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram) to promote employer events, activities, job postings and engage with employers/students
  • Tracks Co-op and Work-Integrated Learning employer inquiries and tags employer accounts to the appropriate Co-op/WIL staff for lead generation
  • Reviews employer requests for MyCareer Portal accounts for non-Co-op/non WIL employers and when necessary, assists employers with setting up their Employer Account and how to effectively post a job
  • Helps coordinate and provides logistics support for Talent Hub employer events and activities
Administration
  • Liaises with Co-op, Career and WIL service teams to ensure that Talent Hub resources are up to date and easily accessible for client use
  • Prepares monthly reporting to the Manager and team or as required
  • Tracks and reports on Talent Hub service activities, such as walk-in requests for service, virtual chat activity, appointment booking, referrals, employer support, etc
Qualifications
  • Career Development Practitioner certification or courses is an asset
  • Two-Year Diploma in General Arts & Sciences, Business, Communication, Customer Services, Event Planning, Human/Social Services, Education, Social Sciences, Sales & Marketing, or Public Relations is required
  • Customer service orientation with experience serving diverse clientele and stakeholders
  • Superior analytical, assessment, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills
  • Three years of experience in a client-facing, customer service role in a post-secondary, community-based or business environment
  • Demonstrated capacity to multi-task and handle a high volume of work while coping with frequent interruptions
  • Well-developed interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with the ability to respond with tact and diplomacy
  • Knowledge of trends and best practices in career services
  • Proficiency in/experience with Microsoft Office applications coupled with the demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new/emerging technology tools
  • Proficiency in a second language such as Hindi or French is an asset
