DUTIES :


  • Will comply with specific regulatory legal and policy requirements including but not limited to Collections Management Policy, Copyright law, Windsor’s Community Museum Policies.
  • Will perform general duties essential to the operation of the Sculpture Park including, but not limited to: condition reports of all treatments, photo-documentation of all work, condition assessments, report preparation, answering public questions and providing general information on the work being completed.
  • Reporting to the Manager of Cultural Affairs or designate, this summer student position will apply current conservation and maintenance treatments to clean the public sculptures utilizing methods and procedures as they relate to standards for community public art sculptures in Ontario specifically as it applies to conservation and preservation of the collection.
  • Will communicate in a respectful manner and maintain amiable relations with the public and fellow staff.
  • Will perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Hiring will occur pending union concurrence.
  • Will perform other related duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must be studying in the field(s) of Art/Social Science, Museological theory, applied Museum studies or other related field;
  • Previous conservation experience will be considered an asset.
  • Must have the ability to travel to off site locations in a timely and expedient manner as required. If method of travel is by vehicle, a current valid and lawful Driver’s License is required and must provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment;
  • Must be returning to full-time attendance in September of 2019;
  • Understanding and practicum experience in the fields of cataloguing artefacts, registration and collections management or image cataloguing & digital storage of images will be considered assets;
  • Understanding and practicum experience in cleaning public art sculptures consisting of different materials such as bronze, painted finishes, granite etc. will be considered assets;
  • Must have excellent public relations and customer service skills and will maintain cordial relations with the public, and all staff;
  • Must have completed or be working towards the completion of a certificate in Museum Studies or Cultural Heritage Conservation from an accredited University or Community College or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalent;
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks;
  • Related community and volunteer experience a definite asset;
  • Must be a full-time post secondary student attending an accredited University or Community College or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalent on a full time basis (4 courses or more);
