About The Role
About the role
This role is part of a new team responsible for the Shopify Entrepreneurship Index — the world’s first home for data and insights on global entrepreneurship across 40 countries and all U.S. states. Shopify powers millions of businesses globally, providing the data and network needed to build something that did not previously exist: a comprehensive dataset on entrepreneurship around the world.
This person will be responsible for the evolving design of the Index product, and its future direction. Working closely with a small group of engineers, product managers, as well as our legal and policy teams, you will continue shaping the Shopify Entrepreneurship Index into a powerful storytelling and data exploration experience.
This is an opportunity to solve challenging problems that impact real people as they grow and maintain their businesses. In this role, you will work collaboratively and build iteratively with a multidisciplinary team of developers, product managers, content designers, user researchers, and marketers. You’ll deliver world class experiences that make potentially confusing business tasks intuitive and manageable, and empower entrepreneurs world-wide to achieve independence.
Responsibilities

• Passion for solving product problems while balancing all facets of a user experience (strategy and research, information architecture, interaction design)
• Collaborating closely with multiple disciplines including product and engineering
• Understanding of the end-to-end iterative design process including how to develop and use design research, job stories, journey mapping, content modeling, wire-framing, prototyping, user testing, and high-fidelity visuals to achieve human-centered design solutions

Qualifications
What you need to apply / Qualifications

• Please provide a portfolio demonstrating your ability to design and deliver modern, expressive, interactive and polished product/web and data visualization design work.
• Excellent communication and storytelling skills; you have the ability to help your team and stakeholders understand the “why” behind your design rational
• Proven work experience in visual design and data visualization
• Proficiency with current industry design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Sketch, Github, etc.
• Strong understanding of modern web tech (animations, interaction, etc)
• Proficiency in interaction design for native mobile and web applications
• Passion for solving product problems while balancing all facets of a user experience (strategy and research, information architecture, interaction design) and collaborating closely with multiple disciplines including product, engineering, content, and research.
• A deep empathy for the user, and tools to help others develop this empathy as well
• Expert knowledge of the end to end iterative product design process including how to develop and use design research, job stories, journey mapping, content modeling, wire-framing, prototyping, user testing, and high-fidelity visuals to achieve human-centered design solutions
