Senior Mechanical Engineer Jobs

The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Sudbury Resources Group, located at our Sudbury Ontario office. The WSP Resources Group supports mills, smelters, mines, industrial sites, infrastructure, refinery, ports, material handling, pulp and paper.

Reporting to the Resources Mechanical discipline manager, this position will be responsible for leading and executing the mechanical design engineering efforts for the growing Sudbury team. WSP is committed to supporting the growth of the Sudbury Resources office and establishing a sustainable long-term presence to better support Clients in Northeastern Ontario. The Sudbury Resources team works closely with other WSP offices to build the best team to meet clients project needs.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer within the Resources Group you will work on both new construction and brownfield projects. You will apply your mechanical design knowledge on project work from conceptual design and studies through to project completion. Effective communication, technical quality, cost effectiveness, building and maintaining client relationships, and providing guidance to a team of designers are integral parts of this role.

A day in the life:

• Supervision and guidance of mechanical design teams, and take responsibility on technical matters.
• Perform engineering calculations, review and seal documents
• Design of specialized material handling(i.e., conveying, grinding, classifying, storage, etc.), industrial HVAC, pumping and piping systems, heavy industrial equipment and systems;
• Incorporation of safety and risk analysis into designs;
• Travel to various client sites, attend project meetings and conduct field reviews;
• Safety Focus including consideration of safety in design, construction and operations
• Project Manager for Discipline projects.
• Field reviews / site inspections for design verification / implementation;
• Other duties as assigned
• Build and maintain client relationships and respond to client requests

What you'll bring to WSP ...

• Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario, other provinces/states a benefit;
• Minimum of 10 years experience as a mechanical P.Eng working primarily in design roles.
• Relevant experience in the design of HVAC, dust collection, material handling and / or pumping and piping systems in Canada;
• Must possess a team player attitude and be able to work in project team environment
• Must be able to attend industrial sites and observe all applicable safety regulations;
• Must possess a valid driver’s license;
• Be fluent in the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills with working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programs;
• Knowledge of CEMA standards, Building Codes, CSA standards, and ASHRAE standards;
• Project experience in mills, smelters, mines, industrial sites, infrastructure, refinery, ports, material handling, pulp and paper is beneficial
