Job Overview


Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a strategic and results driven project management leader with a unique background and perspective to join our team in the role of Sr. Manager, Projects – Indigenous Engagement, exclusively focused on OPG’s New Nuclear projects, specifically the Small Modular Reactor development in Darlington.


Reporting to the Project Director, New Nuclear, the Sr. Manager, Projects – Indigenous Engagement plays a critical leadership role, responsible for the development and execution of an Indigenous Engagement strategy in support of project objectives; OPG’s Indigenous Relations Policy and related governance. The Sr. Manager, Projects – Indigenous Engagement will endeavour to establish and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, and their chosen representatives.


This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of OPG’s SMR journey - the first of its kind in North America – where you will directly contribute to Ontario Power Generation’s continued growth and success in generating safe, clean, reliable low-cost power in a sustainable manner.


Key Accountabilities


To develop and execute strategy as well as provide expertise, leadership, coordination, and advice on past grievance negotiations and other matters relating to Indigenous Relations at OPG.


  • Work with project staff to ensure complex information is communicated in clear and understandable terminology and recognizes the worldviews and interests of the Indigenous Nation and communities.
  • Document engagement activities and prepare reports as required by project stakeholders, OPG governance, project plans, or regulations.
  • Provide a work environment whereby employees are involved in and are committed to the success of the organisation and that contributes to healthy employees working safely in an accident-free workplace while maintaining a workforce diversity which is reflective of the community.
  • Apply judgment, discretion and initiative in managing sensitive issues involving Indigenous communities and their citizens, including Aboriginal and treaty rights, and negotiating outcomes that strike the appropriate balance between the interests of OPG and the respective community;
  • Establish budgets, staffing, and schedules and participate in other planning as required to execute the project.
  • Negotiate agreements for capacity, traditional knowledge studies, accommodation and potential partnerships;
  • Establish and implement consultation plans necessary to influence and secure regulatory and government approvals;
  • Advise project staff on Indigenous engagement requirements, best practices, and opportunities.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports and, where appropriate, contractors engaged in the delivery of Indigenous Relations programs and projects;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with government officials at the local, provincial and federal level, industry and Indigenous associations;
  • Travel to Indigenous communities in an effort to establish and maintain relationships with Indigenous community leadership as well as Indigenous Provincial and Territorial Organizations (PTOs);
  • Provide data, analysis and reports for corporate purposes including executive decision making, as required.


EDUCATION


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Finance or Business or equivalent is required
  • Specific academic focus on Indigenous Studies is considered an asset
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is considered an asset.


Qualifications


We are seeking an innovative, strategic, and results driven project management leader who has the following:


  • Hands-on demonstrated expertise as a subject matter expert in advising stakeholders on Indigenous engagement requirements, best practices, and opportunities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook).
  • Developed experience in contract development, contract management, budgeting, staffing, and scheduling Must possess a high level of integrity and personal accountability with a focus on engaging employees to perform at their best, while promoting the development of the team.
  • Past experience negotiating agreements for capacity, traditional knowledge studies, accommodation and potential partnerships between organizations and Indigenous communities
  • Extensive experience in development or assessment of complex proposals with negotiation, interpretation, and administration of complex agreements and contracts.
  • Proficiency in Primavera 6 (P6) is an asset.
  • Experience in establishing credibility, confidence and earning trust.
  • People orientated with strong interpersonal skills, adept at building and maintaining positive, productive, and collaborative working relationships and partnership.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, possess excellent oral and writing skills, and strong facilitation, negotiation, influencing and presentation skills.
  • Minimum 8+ years of progressive experience as a strategic project leader, who has demonstrated experience in effectively developing and executing of an Indigenous Engagement strategies
  • Proven drive for results; demonstrated solid judgement with a with proven track record of achieving success in community outreach, while providing valued input to a management team.
  • Prior experience in establishing, building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities and leaders as well as Indigenous associations, Indigenous Provincial and Territorial Organizations (PTOs) and maintain with government officials at the local, provincial and federal level
