The Role

As a member of the Client Business Security Systems Design team, this Engineer will assess the current state of AMD’s firmware, software and ecosystem capabilities and define the generational improvements required. This will require significant cross functional alignment and teaming skills. We’re looking for an Engineer with an expert level of understanding of the security technologies, capabilities, and challenges. Growth of security development teams to execute is expected to augment the existing program and product management teams within AMD. This role requires an unusual mix of technical breadth and depth, problem solving, management skills, and soft skills. To be successful in this role, you’ll also need to blend excellent technical understanding of the operation of PC systems, highly optimized engineering processes and tools, cross functional and cross company collaboration, and translating the business needs of the client product group to the product and system features that meet those requirements.

The Person

We’re looking for an ambitious engineer who appreciates having a high-visibility role and making a significant impact to both AMD’s client business and the direction of the PC industry. In this role, you will work with a team of talented engineers to deliver world class Security for our business. Partner with internal and external engineering teams, system development, system solutions, and deployment and customer engineering teams to deliver new and innovative security features to AMD product and systems. This is a new, “ground floor” role within AMD client system engineering defined to lead forward looking, leadership capabilities into our products, software, firmware, ecosystem, and ultimately, shipping customer desktop, laptop, and workstation systems. You will have the opportunity to drive and deliver innovation in AMD security.

Key Responsibilities

• Debugging issues found during the process, bring-up, validation, and production phases of SOC programs 
• Grow required system design and development teams to implement, optimize, tune, and test at the system level
• Develop strong partnerships with program stakeholders across the organization and development partners
• Engage existing cross functional efforts and teams working the solution components
• Driving technical innovation to improve AMD’s capabilities across validation, including tool and script development, technical and procedural methodology enhancement, and various internal and cross-functional technical initiatives
• Define and enter required ecosystem partnership for required solution components
• Effective with communication and building respect while communicating cross-functionally
• Working with multiple teams, and tracking test execution to make sure all features are validated and optimized on time
• Lead definition and alignment of Software and Firmware requirements to implement those improvements

Preferred Experience

• Speak firmware and software languages
• Knowledge of system architecture, technical debug, and validation strategy
• Programming/scripting skills including C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python
• Ensure system assessments and customer platform attainment to deliver industry best products
• Debug techniques and methodologies
• Understand PC system level impacts of security functions
• Prior years relevant Engineering experience focused on system engineering and Security
• Depth and expertise in Security technologies and PC user experience with respect to security
• Hands on experience with board/platform-level debugging, including delivery, sequencing, analysis, and optimization
• Must be a self-starter, and able to independently drive tasks to completion
• Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and pronounced attention to detail
• Prior experience with common lab equipment, including protocol/logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc. 

Academic Credentials

Bachelors or Masters Degree in related field preferred
