The Relief Childcare Worker is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the Child Care Program in accordance with the goals of the department and the overall Association.

Key Responsibilities

• Takes responsibility for maintaining an orderly and tidy Centre, clean equipment and tidy cupboards;
• Ensures that the Health and Safety Guidelines are followed in accordance with the policies and procedures of the funders and YWCA Toronto;
• Ensures that the Centre is set up appropriately for children’s activities.
• Implements a program geared to the needs of the children with concerns for their interests, special needs, strengths and pace of learning;
• Works with the children in a group while maintaining sensitivity to each child’s individual needs;
• Communicates with parents/ Program Coordinator on a regular basis concerning the children
• Works as part of a team with program staff and volunteers to provide an integrated program that enhances the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children;

Qualification

• An Early Childhood Education Diploma or recognized equivalent an asset (high school completion required);
• Knowledge of early childhood development, theory and practice;
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills;
• Willing to work flexible hours within the hours of 9:30am – 8:30pm day Monday to Friday.
• 1-3 years experience with children ages 0 to 6;
• Experience working within a multicultural environment;
• Skills and flexibility to work with various age groupings from 0 to 6 years;
