POSITION SUMMARYWorking within the Early Childhood Development department, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Support Child Development Worker supports children and families who have a child or children with a developmental challenge’s and to help them reach the child’s full potential.The Supported Child Development program provides services to Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal children who require extra support due to physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and developmental challenges. Children are provided support in a variety of ways to support them to meet their full potential in inclusive childcare centers.Services are family centered and designed to maximize participation and learning in children 0-19 years, with priority for children 0-6 years.SUCCESS PROFILEWhat does it take to be successful working in the Ealy Childhood Education Department, Supported Child Development (SCD) Program at Seabird Island? Our team is passionate about supporting children and their families.Seabird Island is located 1 kilometer from Agassiz, BC on the beautiful Fraser River, 120 km east of Vancouver.We’re hiring!| Facebook| LinkedIn| For Our CultureBENEFITS & PERKSBenefits vary by job type, apply after a successful probationary period and are confirmed in the interview and hiring process.Accrued vacation and sick time.Access to internal training programs, professional development, and skill enhancementCollaboration with an interdisciplinary team,Equitable hourly ratesCasual dress codeWHAT YOU'LL DOWork as a team member with center staff to implement child specific strategies, activities, and plans for inclusion upon recommendations of parents, SCD Consultants or Early Intervention Therapists.Support children with extra support needs to fully participate in childcare settings.Provide physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual support for families.Work closely with assigned Consultant and families to review and adjust Individual Service Plans (ISP’s) including goals for children on caseload.Demonstrate positive child-adult interactions.Ensure ECE center policies and procedures are upheld.Work as a team member to provide culturally appropriate daily experiences that support and promote the development of all children in the setting.Assist in maintaining an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children.Daily charting is required with each child on their case load.Support and facilitate transitions to other programs including school.Maintain regular communication and positive relationships with families, center staff, and the Communities.Complete logs, documents and reports as required on a daily, monthly, and annual basis.Assist the child through transition time, this may include positioning in adaptive equipment, behavioral intervention, or diapering.Attend all team meetings and staff meeting as an active participant.Participate in regular professional development, research and strategies.Maintain confidentiality; except in the case of abuse & neglect, which you are required to report by law.Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your Supervisor, Manager, Director, or the EDWHAT YOU BRINGEducationECE or ECE/IT certificate, required.Emergency Child Care First aid certificate required.2+ years’ experience working with children in an ECE, or special needs setting required.Must be physically and emotionally capable of carrying out the duties of the position. Medical documentation will be required.ExperienceProficient computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook)Ability to develop and maintain a warm, caring, responsive relationship with children.Ability to establish and maintain supportive and collaborative relationships with families and staff.Maintain confidentiality in regard to children, families and staff members.A positive professional and non-judgmental attitudeGood interpersonal skills and able to work effectively with co-workers.Excellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedure.Knowledge and respect of Stó: lō culture, history, traditions and language is considered an asset.Experience working with First Nations communities is considered an asset.Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5 & clean Driver’s Abstract required.Satisfactory vulnerable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector - CRRPREPORTS TO: MCFD Program SupervisorPRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGEmployment is conditional upon completing pre-employment screening to ensure a safe and secure work environment in which students, staff, members, families, community, as well as resources, and assets are protected.
