Reporting to the Out of School Care Program Coordinator, the successful candidate will perform a wide variety of tasks for the Prince George Montessori Education Society. The Child/Youth Care Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the provision of a safe and developmentally appropriate child and youth care in accordance with Montessori philosophy and all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
The successful applicant will be either a student in a provincially recognized Early Childhood Education program or highly interested entering the field. This is an entry level position with the possibility of moving into other areas of child and youth care as the successful applicant completes their education and gains workplace experience.
Responsibilities
- Use a variety of teaching techniques including modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing.
- Support the Program Coordinator in establishing an engaging and interactive space for the children.
- Provide a daily balance of active/quiet, indoor/outdoor, and individual/group activities.
- Assist in the cleaning and organization of the facility at the beginning and end of each day.
- Provide positive guidance such as redirecting, positive language, and positive reinforcement.
- Oversee projects, free time, and other activities.
- Participate in, and assist in the organization of, field trips and other special events.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 education
- Good organizational skills
- Good communication skills, written and oral, required
- 19 years of age or older
- Flexibility
- Responsible Adult certification, or Early Childhood Education course, or willingness to obtain after hire
- Previous experience working with children in any setting will be considered an asset
