Overview


The primary objective is to lead and coordinate the Production Team in production of clinker and cement in accordance with the safety, environmental, quality and quantity objective for the St-Constant plant to meet budgeted requirements and customer needs.


Responsibilities


Safety:


  • Ensure the safe and effective operation of the production shift employees.


Production


  • Coordinate and facilitate key decision making and problem solving with the team when dealing with mechanical, electrical, process, quality, productivity or manpower related problems.
  • Make sure that all control parameters of the lab, the control room and the field are met.
  • Produce the forecasted quantities and quality of raw mix, clinker and cement minimizing con-compliance.
  • Manage the major turnarounds in terms of labour.
  • Represent the production department when coordinating and organizing the teams work with other departments.
  • Protect the plant’s equipment and maximize its utilization and reliability.
  • Ensure that all environmental guidelines are followed and complied with.
  • Provide leadership and ensure communication within a team environment to achieve the production objectives.


Reporting And Relief


  • Provide coverage for the Production Manager, and Production Coordinator. Complete the weekly payroll for the production teams
  • Report on the team’s shift activities and observations, safety meetings and production level.
Relationships with Other Jobs:


  • Works closely with the Production Coordinator and the Process/Optimization/Quality team
  • Collaborates with the maintenance team on the execution of mechanical and electrical maintenance.


Specific Accountabilities


  • Promote good relations and communication between the maintenance and production departments.
  • Meet the forecasted production of clinker and cement within the production budget
  • Provide a safe working environment for all employees
  • Administer the terms and conditions of the Collective Agreement in a fair, firm, and consistent manner. Provide grievance counseling as required.
  • Ensure cooperation and teamwork within the production teams.
  • Ensure productivity, housekeeping and quality of work standards are maintained within the production department.
  • Achieve personal and departmental goals.
  • Meet the quality objectives for raw mix, clinker and cement.
  • Coordinate training for the production employees.

Qualifications


Education and Work Experience


  • 2 year of cement manufacturing experience OR five years of production supervisory experience in a heavy industry,
  • Bachelor of Engineering degree or Technologist or relevant plant experience


Knowledge And Skills


  • Highly motivated with ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Very strong computer skills.
  • Well organized and systematic.
  • Strong communicator (both oral & written).
  • Ability to work on many tasks at the same time while keeping excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent Knowledge of the cement technology and manufacturing process
  • Proven ability to work well in a team environment (co-workers, suppliers, etc.).
  • Excellent leadership ability and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to interact with plant and regional personnel.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organizational and personal goals.
