We are looking for a Mechanical / Electrical Component Engineering - Intern to join us for a 12 month internship at our Toronto office.

You will provide support in ensuring parts and components are in compliance to global environmental requirements (such as: RoHS, REACH) and ensure that compliance and performance requirements are clearly communicated on Thales documents and specifications

In this position, the candidate will be exposed to the processes utilized when developing products in an engineering environment. The work in this role will provide the individual a better understanding of: mechanical components, materials, and environmental requirements associated with Product HSE. The activities will provide improved clarity to internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance of product to environmental requirements, reduce errors and improve efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Update mechanical drawings/specifications to clearly communicate technical, performance, and compliance requirements
• Streamline information transfer to contract manufacturers
• Work with stakeholders (Industrialization, Hardware Design, Procurement, Suppliers, and Subcontractors) to standardize requirements relating to environmental and performance compliance
• Other activities related to Product HSE as required
• Generate reports to show Product compliance and areas of non-compliance to the environmental requirements
• Maintain list of approved & disqualified surface treatments for Thales designed mechanical parts
• Engage suppliers to understand material compliance and collect appropriate compliance documentation
• Work with the Product HSE Manager to analyze materials against environmental requirements and determine product compliance to the requirements

Required Skills and Experience:

• The successful candidate should be working towards a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in Engineering (Mechanical, Electronic, Material Science, Mechatronic, or similar with exposure to mechanical items/parts)
• Fluent in English both in written and oral communication skills
• Able to work full time hours (40 hours) with the start date and the agreed work term

Preferred Qualifications:

• Awareness of Product HSE requirements such as: RoHS, REACH
• Attention to detail and curiosity to understand the criticality of activities
• Ability to conceptually grasp the “big picture” and apply critical thinking to resolve issues
• Document processes and provide training / education on Product HSE activities
• Knowledge of mechanical component specifications/drawings
• Proficient in Excel
• Work with CAD software such as: AutoCAD, SolidEdge, MicroStation, etc.
• Ability to work independently and multi-task
• Familiarity with surface treatment performance standards such as: MIL, ASTM, etc.
