Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Drafter to join our team. As a Mechanical Drafter, you will collaborate closely with engineers and designers to create accurate and comprehensive technical drawings for mechanical components, systems, and assemblies. Your expertise in computer-aided design (SolidWorks CAD) software and understanding of engineering principles will be instrumental in producing high-quality drawings that meet industry standards and facilitate the manufacturing and assembly processes. The selected candidate would be reporting directly to the Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Specify dimensions, tolerances, materials, and manufacturing processes in drawings, ensuring feasibility and functionality – familiarity with the following fabrication processes would be considered an asset: Wire EDM, MIM, Metal Casting, CNC Machining & Sheet Metal.
- Adhere to industry standards (ASME Y14.5, ISO128, MIL-STD-100), understanding of GD&T and measuring equipment (Image Dimension Measurement System / Probe based CMM) is critical to properly perform the job.
- Communicate and coordinate with other departments, such as Manufacturing, Quality Control, and Purchasing, to ensure seamless integration of design and production processes.
- Assist in creating and maintaining an organized database of drawings, documents, and technical information for future reference using SolidWorks PDM system.
- Incorporate design changes and modifications into existing drawings, ensuring consistency and accuracy throughout.
- Review and revise drawings based on feedback, design revisions, or manufacturing requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to understand project requirements, including specifications, dimensions, and materials.
- Creating mechanical drawing packages including fabrication drawings, Isometrics, Bill of Materials (BOM), assembly drawings and patent simplified sketches – experience working in an ISO 9000 certified organization would be considered an asset.
Qualifications & Skills
- Well organized with time management skills and ability to meet project deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Graduate of a Mechanical Drafting Technician / College program.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with Engineers and other stakeholders.
- 2+ years of design/drafting experience, preferably in manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in the following computer software: SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM & Microsoft office tools.
- Ability to interpret napkin sketch ideas / engineering specifications and convert them into comprehensive drawings.
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities to identify and resolve design or drawing issues.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate and precise drawings from CAD model and napkin sketch ideas.
- A highly motivated self-starter that can work independently and can work collaboratively with other departments.
