Our esteemed client, the largest private mortgage provider in Canada, is seeking a skilled leader to provide day-to-day guidance to a team of underwriters, ensuring the attainment of department metrics and maintaining top-notch quality standards. Additionally, as part of your responsibilities, you will oversee daily processes and talent development initiatives, with a strong focus on enhancing the customer experience and streamlining operational efficiencies. Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the underwriting leadership team on departmental initiatives.
- Assist in underwriting applications for residential mortgage insurance, including appraisal reviews.
- Act as a strong customer and business advocate, liaising with sales, customers, and cross-functional groups to support business strategies.
- Drive best-in-class customer service and handle customer inquiries and escalations.
- Coach underwriters on lending and credit risk standards, promoting effective decision-making aligned with the organization's risk appetite.
- Aid in managing underwriting processes and implementing operational solutions.
- Lead, guide, and support a team of underwriters, emphasizing file support and technical expertise to ensure consistent underwriting and customer-centric approach.
- Manage employee development, engagement, performance, scheduling, and issue resolution.
- Support the development of key performance indicators for team and individual performance analysis.
- Monitor and guide direct reports in achieving individual, team, and departmental targets.
- Assist Sales with lender presentations and visits focused on underwriting standards.
Requirements:
- In-depth knowledge of underwriting processes, tools, and technologies, including credit risk analysis.
- Thrives in a constantly changing, high-intensity environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and resolve issues across all organizational levels.
- Proficient in analytical decision-making, problem-solving, and risk mitigation.
- Strong people leadership, skill development, and employee engagement.
- Results-focused with customer service orientation and business acumen.
- Minimum 3 years' underwriting management experience in a dynamic, high-volume environment.
